Girlfriend’s Guide to the Toyota Music Factory

November 6, 2018 By Autumn Rose Reo 1 Comment

Toyota Music Factory makes it easy for friends + food + fun. No decisions necessary – just go and get ready for the fun to happen with this Girlfriend’s Guide to the Toyota Music Factory in Irving.

It’s no shocker anyone who knows me that I’m very indecisive about where I want to eat.

Whether it’s going through a drive-thru or headed out for something a little more special than a normal Friday night, I deliberate forever about not just where to eat, but what to eat.

Toyota Music Factory

Think that’s annoying?

Just get me together when one of my girlfriends and we might as well start talking about it at breakfast time so we have something narrowed down by the time it’s actually dinner. However, I’ve learned that it isn’t just us – it’s also most women in general. There’s something about making all these other big choices in life that a meal just stops us in our tracks (unless it’s Starbucks, well #becausecoffee.) And while the idea of making lists, creating jars with names to randomly pick, or just going off the first thing that comes to mind seems like it would narrow down the choices, it doesn’t.

Toyota Music Factory

However, Irving has figured out the secret for one-stop food + fun that can make us all happy…Toyota Music Factory. With a name like that it’s obvs that it’s a music place (one of the best in my opinion for both indoor and outdoor intimate concert experiences), but there’s also a movie theatre for your viewing pleasure AND tons of restaurants (from cheese and wine to ice cream like you’ve never had), it’s all in one place in the middle of the metroplex – easy to find, easy to park, and even easier to have a memorable and decision-free evening (or afternoon!) Each spot is only steps from the other and each experience is entirely different, so even if you can’t make a decision on one place to go – do a few like a progressive dinner (where you don’t have to make anything!)

Toyota Music Factory

There are many options, but I have some of my top picks – ready for you to pick on just a Monday night or a big night out before (and after) the concert (true story, I even went out one night by myself to see Matchbox Twenty and had a blast – with no one but little ole me.)

Don’t Miss This: Irving Music Factory Picks

Nosh & Bottle Market
One word: charcuterie. There’s nothing quicker to my heart than a meat and cheese plate…except a beautiful glass of wine to go with. So naturally this hybrid neighborhood market/wine spot is the perfect place to start a night (or if you are loving the mood, then stay until they send you home or they pull out a chair with you.)

Toyota Music Factory

Toyota Music Factory

Top Round Roast Beef
I wasn’t ready to love this place as much as I did – as roast beef isn’t normally my dinner bell. But I was quite taken – not just by the amazing “chef driven” food, but the hospitality of Top Round Roast Beef. There was so much to learn about the philosophy too and the customer service was off the charts. And yes, while you can get a great frozen custard, you can score a beer or glass of wine!

Toyota Music Factory

Toyota Music Factory

Gloria’s Latin Cuisine

This staple is always one of my favorites, which is why so many people go to it as their destination for a little somethin’ different than just Tex-Mex…it’s a mix of Salvadorian, Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes. And don’t miss the margaritas – especially since Gloria’s has happy hour ALL. DAY. LONG.

Toyota Music Factory

Pop Factory

Oh jeez – get ready for all your dessert dreams to come true, but even better – because they’re healthy (or at least healthier than normal when it comes to sugar.) Combinations with everything from strawberries, green tea, and much more exotic – you can get it customized, dipped, or whatever you want – on a stick.

Toyota Music Factory

Kabuki Japanese Restaurant

If you’re looking for a night to put on the heels, this is your spot (but they don’t care if you choose flip flops either.) The menu gives you both the old and new taste of Japanese cuisine – especially the sushi rolls. With many kids choices, gluten free and veggie options this is a great go-to for the whole brood, but I suggest leaving them at home and gathering the girls for the sangria. It’s worth the drive just for that.

Toyota Music Factory

The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory

When I heard about the concept for this facility, I was giddy. But when I finally go to go and experience the place, I was ELATED. I’d always loved outdoor music venues with lawn seating, but of course, it does stink when it rains or it’s miserably cold. The Pavilion gives you both options – and just a few minutes down the road in the middle of DFW. And since you have so many places to go before and after a show, it’s a no brainer this place is where to to go.

Toyota Music Factory

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

You’ll never watch movies the same way after an evening at the Alamo. Yes, you have movies, but there’s the mighty good food and drinks AND the super comfortable loungers you sit in while you watch your movie and have dinner. Or you can always skip the movie – and go for drinks after the show.

Toyota Music Factory

Thirsty Lion

Don’t be caught off guard at the Thirsty Lion – it’s definitely not just drinks. There’s food for days as well as room for groups – small and large. But the drinks are definitely worth the time…just be careful to not start there unless you’re going to stay there…because otherwise, you won’t leave.

Cool Down with Unique Ice Cream Sodas

July 9, 2018 By Autumn Rose Reo 14 Comments

Before there was Starbucks…there were Ice Cream Soda shops. And there weren’t WiFi connections or grab and go. You waited your turn to get your special unique ice cream soda and just enjoyed it.

People gathered to catch up, go on a date, talk business and enjoy life’s simple joys of creamy, delicious, delectable concoctions with a straw and without a device. Just being able to share a Coca-Cola float sprinkled with a few peanuts atop a whip cream (considered the bees knees at the time) was a big treat and no one worried about calories.

Ice-Cream-Soda

Those were the days. And I wouldn’t mind a little moment in a poodle skirt to enjoy one.

While we can’t experience the fun of a soda jerk bringing your favorite soda to the table at too many places anymore, you can play the part at home developing your own unique ice cream sodas. All you need is your imagination to devise your own creations using some of those fun sodas like from Sparkling Ice or Mexican sodas like Juanitos, interesting ice creams in the pint section, and one super cold glass.

And don’t forget your fat pants (this is a great time to find your old maternity pants.)

Ice-Cream-Sodas

So cool off this summer with some of the best recipes for ice cream sodas like we’re making on Good Morning Texas.

All of today’s recipes were made with ingredients found at Tom Thumb/Randalls Stores. However, you can find many of these at your local grocery store in the soda and ice cream aisle (except the beer for our truly fantastic Grownups version of Chocolate Brownie Ice Cream Float.

No Skill Baking: Skillet Desserts

February 28, 2018 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

In the mood for something sweet, but don’t have ingredients or even a recipe? Then pull out the skillet for the easiest and best way to bake with these Skillet Desserts.

“Honey, do we have anything sweet to eat?”

Famous last words of my husband when we’ve run out of fruit or his reserve Homemade vanilla BB in the freezer.

It’s also the same feeling I get when someone calls on their way to the house and I have nothing to serve.

Skillet

It’s not like I’m looking for Food Network level here, I’m just trying to bust out something sweet without just ripping up a bag of M&Ms to pass around.

So that’s where skillet desserts come into the picture.

You could make it with a plan like Apple Fritter Skillet (see below) to emptying out the pantry and putting ANYTHING like leftover Valentine’s Day candy to make a Kitchen Sink Skillet (you don’t even need a recipe for this one.)

However the one requirement you do need to create skillet desserts is the SKILLET. (Keyword here.)

So first if you don’t have one, then maybe you should stop here. You could go order one or better yet, go talk to grandma to relinquish hers. Those are the best ones, anyways. Skillets aren’t just because they’re multi-purpose for cooking everything from a steak to desserts like these, but that they get better with time.

Skillet-Dessert

Just one thing before you put together your skillet dessert, you’ll need to season it make sure there’s no taste of chicken or steak in there from the time before. Just throw in a little butter, let it melt and stick it in the oven for a little while during the pre-heat. Then go for it.

First off, you don’t really need a recipe for this.

No, really, you don’t.

Open a box of brownie mix and follow the instructions on the box to make the dough.

Then open a box of chocolate chip cookie dough from the box. Read the instructions to make the dough.

Put the brownie mix in the skillet.

Then put the cookie dough in the skillet. I’d leave a little bit of brownie around the sides.

Now, if you really want to mix it up, then start adding stuff. Like anything.

  • Chocolate chips
  • Oreo bits
  • Leftover candy

You get my drift. This is the part where I call it “Kitchen Sink Skillet Dessert.” Or if you prefer, you can call it something creative…but kitchen sink describes it well.

Skillet-Dessert

Then bake it as instructed, approximately 350-375 degrees for about 30-45 minutes. Done. Serve it with some vanilla ice cream (that is if you have any of that left.)

Skillet-Dessert

Yep, that’s easy, right?

Well then, if you liked that, then you’ll love the Apple Fritter/Apple Cinnamon Skillet we’re sharing soon!

But until then, let’s see how much skill it takes to make it go from this…

Skillet-Dessert

to this ooey-gooey, deliciousness.

Jingle Berry Juice

December 10, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo 18 Comments

Put a little joy in your holiday with this Jingle Berry Juice punch the whole family can enjoy.

Acorn Disclosure

I have sincere fear of FOMO (yep, that’s fear of missing out.) And when it comes to the holidays I don’t want to miss out on ANYTHING.

Whether it’s the cookies, cakes, cocktails or whatever thing being served, I want to taste a bite of it. Especially at the holidays. It’s that one time of the year we don’t try to just make it good, we want to make it the BEST.

However, I don’t always want to indulge, but I do want to partake. Especially when it comes to drinks during the Christmas season, it’s normally loaded – on something extra creamy or extra adultlike with rum, whiskey, wine or champagne.

While this girl loves her bubbles, I wanted to make a special festive concoctions that the parents would love and the kids could also enjoy together. Remembering a trick from my maternity days, adding a sparkling water to any juice blend would give it just the “kick” to make it fun to enjoy when others around me may have had other bubbles in their glass.

Jingle-Berry-Juice-Dasani
Taking the opportunity to be festive and jolly – I picked up my new favorite DASANI Sparkling Water in Berry from Walmart along with raspberry sherbet, cranberry juice and orange juice to create Jingle Berry Juice. Just as much fun to say as it is to drink, everyone is able to get in the spirit without having any added spirits!

Jingle-Berry-Juice

With no time needed to create this concoction, you can concentrate on the other things that make the holidays special – like spending time with your friends and loved ones. (And you’ll still pull off making yourself look like you worked on your shindig for days!)

Plus with zero calories, unsweetened, zero artificial colors, and caffeine-free, DASANI is the ideal mixer for the holidays – including brunch, girls’ night out, or a family get together. And in Lime, Berry, Lemon, Black Cherry 12-packs, everyone on your list, naughty or nice, will have their favorite flavor on hand.

Wined and Dined: 5 Best Dallas Steakhouses

December 9, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Celebrating a raise, an anniversary, or making a big impression, the way to get wined and dined in Dallas always leads to steak. There’s a lot of ’em, here are 5 not to miss!

When people come to Dallas one of the first questions they always ask is “where do I get a good steak?”

Followed by “where do I get a good margarita?” and “Where do I get good Mexican food (which of course leads to a big discussion on the difference between Mexican food and Tex-Mex.)

But a good steakhouse? We have tons of them to choose from.

And while many of them will get you a good steak, potato and salad, the distinction of a good steakhouse has a lot more to do with how good is the steak and even more so, how good is the service.

Funny enough, no matter when the economy is up or down, studies show, we still eat steak here in Dallas no matter what.

(Remember, “beef, it’s what’s for dinner.)

5 Best Steakhouses in Dallas

One other factor is how dressed you wanna get. Some of these you can get away in with a nice pair of jeans and collared shirt. However, a few of these you’ll need to throw out a little extra effort. And while you’re getting things out, make sure to make allocations for your budget because you’ll be paying some moolah to eat that steak. Thankfully, you can’t miss which ever one you choose. They’re all that good.

Besides, isn’t that part of the fun?

5 Best Dallas Steakhouses

Al Biernat’s

4217 Oak Lawn Ave, Dallas, TX 75219

You know that moment in the movies where the rich guy is called by name immediately when he walks into a restaurant and they place them in his “table?” That’s how everyone feels at Al Biernat’s. Anyone and everyone has been here and not necessarily for the steak, either. But the service is impeccable in a sophisticated, laid-back way that doesn’t seemed pushed and just at the right time. They have a way to make you feel like a celebrity (that’s because a lot of them also frequent the spot), but more so because you always feel special even on the busiest of Friday nights. A local legend within itself, don’t miss a chance to eat at (and possibly meet) Al Biernat.

Don’t worry, you’ll know him when you see him as he walks around to say hello and remember that your anniversary is coming up (even when you forgot.)

Pappas Bros. Steakhouse

10477 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, TX 75220

When people talk about having “that’ experience of having a staff watch your every move and anticipate your every need (even if you didn’t know you needed it), that’s Pappas Bros. Looking to make that big impression that you’ve hit the big time and can spring for the $200+ bottles of vino? That’s Pappas Bros. This menu is everything you expect it to be with shrimp cocktail, filet mignons and one of Dallas’ few food finds for foie gras. But don’t fill up on the first, second or even fourth course. With a beyond dessert menu, you at least need to make room for a bite (or four.)

III Forks

17776 Dallas Parkway Dallas, Texas 75287

When you see that moment a guy gets on his knee to ask a gal to marry him in an uber romantic eatery that’s exactly what it looks like when walk into III Forks. Except that small, exclusive restaurant is actually 14 different beautiful dining rooms within the 25,000 sq. ft. building. More than 900 people can be in dining at one time, but you’ll never feel like there’s more than you and your dining partner. Recipient of several Wine Spectator awards and any more, you can enjoy that Texas steak with a twist of French cuisine that makes it an unforgettable dinner experience.

Chamberlain’s Steak & Chop House

5330 Belt Line Rd, Dallas, TX 75254

It’s hard not to be bias about Chamberlain’s Steak and Chop House. When Chef Proprietor Richard Chamberlain isn’t saying hello to the everyone in the room at the steak house or grill (his other eatery in Addison), he’s on TV and in the community doing things. He has all the respect of the local chefs (I’ve seen many of them eating here on their day off), sports stars (they love it here) and certainly of the national ones too, appearing several times on Good Morning America and being named One of the Best Steakhouses in the Country by a little publication called Bon Appetit.  And the man you see on camera, is the same one that you meet, but if possible, even nicer. He food is impeccable and all of his other chefs are too. Prime Rib is ridiculously good. The bisque is ridiculously good. You can’t go wrong unless you just don’t go. And go to Richard hi when you’re there.

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar

N. The Legacy Tower, 7250 Dallas Pkwy, Plano, TX 75024

The youngest of the steakhouses on the list to join Dallas’ elite list, Fleming’s gives North Dallas another reason to stay close to home and everyone else to head northbound on Dallas Parkway. When the restaurant opened, everyone in town made the trek and it was well worth the traffic. With a bar scene that’s great for a Tuesday night in your flats or walk in with your fur and pearls and no one will flinch except to gesture hello and make you feel at home. A huge favorite of many guests are the small plates that are just the right portion size and just the right taste with a little bit of steak, seafood and a little bit of Asian flavor to boot.  Being the new guy, the interiors are new and upscale and so is the technology with the iPad wine list and a smartphone valet claim.

5 Best Steakhouses in Dallas

Bob’s Steak & Chop House

Various locations in Dallas, Fort Worth & Grapevine

If you’re looking for going BIG, then Bob’s Steak & Chop House is where you’ll find it. Not only will you get that big piece of meat you’ve always wanted and dreamed of, but the trademark carrot (yes, just one) will get your table talking for hours. Really. But whatever you do, don’t forget to order the mushrooms! If you’re a fun guy (appreciate that little pun), then you’ll love the sides of mushrooms that I’ve made a stop to pick up a few times to just eat as a meal. Mind blowing. The menu is straight-forward, but it’s because why would you have a large menu if you know that things you make are so good that no one is going to order them anyway. Your expected dark room, white tablecloth, big red wine experience, you’ll be surprised when you walk out finally and see that you’ve spent three hours eating…and you’re still talking about how big that carrot was.

So where are you going for dinner?

Tres Leches Hot Chocolate with Cinnamon Whip

November 27, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo 24 Comments

What’s is your Christmas tradition? Toast to Santa with this Tres Leche Hot Chocolate with Cinnamon Whip for the creamiest way to fiesta.

Thank you to Nestlé® for helping to make the holidays a little extra special and this sponsored post #JuntosConNestle.

Through the years our holiday traditions have changed.

When I was a little girl Christmas lasted for weeks it seemed, traveling to one of my grandma’s or my aunt’s house, enjoying a huge meal and of course, opening presents.

But it wasn’t just what we did at the holidays together – it was the smells, the tastes, and of course, the sounds of laughter that still permeate my memories.

Tres Leches Hot Chocolate

As I have gotten older, there have been fewer holiday stops to be made. I was lucky to celebrate a few of them with my children and that maybe, just maybe they’ll remember the same things I did at grandma’s – like the way it smelled when she was cooking, the cackles she made when a joke was super funny, or grandpa’s special hiding place for his chocolate we’d all sneak a piece throughout Christmas.

However, one of my favorites is the experience of the perfect hot chocolate on Christmas. And not that stuff you get in the envelope either. This is the creamy, perfect taste of hot cocoa that Santa Claus would almost come back for if he could. My mother would spend time making hot chocolate and I never knew why she went to so much time to make it but was always thankful that she did once it was cool enough to put my lips to the mug.

It’s exactly how Christmas morning was meant to be enjoyed – including the tearing up of beautiful Christmas presents, lots of kisses and hugs, and of course, sipping rich hot chocolate with just a little bit of cream on your nose.

Now as an adult, I realize good hot chocolate can’t be quick. Like most of Christmas, it’s about the love and time you put into that will be realized only when you stop to savor what you put into it. Like a tres leches cake that layers different milks to make one of the most delectable cakes ever with ingredients you can find in your pantry.

Tres Leches Hot Chocolate

However, at the holidays, we always stock up at Walmart for items like Nestlé® Carnation evaporated milk. It’s like a little miracle throughout the season when you run out of milk, want to make a rich gravy just like grandma or when you want the creamiest hot chocolate, just like this Tres Leche Hot Chocolate. And it wouldn’t be complete without homemade whipped cream (and a little bit of cinnamon and spice to make your holiday nice!

Did you know what evaporated milk is?
Basically it’s unsweetened milk without about 60% of the water removed so it’s shelf stable and takes far less product to use for recipes with milk.

But of course, this recipe don’t just use Nestlé® Carnation evaporated milk, but milk, heavy cream, and Nestlé® Le Lachera® sweetened condensed milk. Now that’s the secret to creamy hot chocolate.

And maybe one other little something: cinnamon! Using cinnamon (and a little nutmeg) in the cocoa as well as the whipped cream gives it that unique taste that adds not just another layer to your Christmas but also makes it a cut above any cocoa you’ve ever had. (And if you’re up for it, add a little ancho or chile powder on the whip for even more spice!)

Whether you sit around the fire or just want to add something special to your holiday storytime, this hot cocoa recipe with Nestlé® Carnation evaporated milk is the last cocoa you’ll ever make – and keep you coming back for more.

Just make sure to take the time to enjoy making it as much as you do sipping it later. That’s the real secret to this recipe (and the holidays.)

How to Win at Holiday Meal Planning

November 22, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

No time to plan that picture-perfect holiday meal? No problem. Win at holiday meal planning in just a few steps.

Thank you to Barefoot Wine and Thermoserv for helping us put together the perfect holiday for this imperfect parent and this sponsored post.

If you’re anything like me, you just started putting up the ghosts and goblins and now you’re hosting the family holiday meal at your house tomorrow. (True story.)

But instead of screaming like a mad woman (although oventing is always allowed), there are a few quick tips you can put to work that still make you look like you’ve been planning for months.

Quick Tips to Win at Holiday Meal Planning

1. Ditch the Standard Decor.

This year throw out the gourds on the table and go with something you already have like candles and other pieces you can find around the house. If you choose a few items that are monotone like silver or gold, paired together always look upscale. For our theme this year, we used a few rustic pieces like burlap and white candles blended with golds and roses to make the table pop and the only thing I bought was some fresh flowers at the grocery store. Done in a way that could make JoJo proud.

Holiday Meal Planning

2. Play up the Placards.

Mitigate all the wrong people sitting at the table next to each other with table assignments. But you don’t have to spend hours to make cute little individualized pieces, let the kids make it their own craft (delegation is key) or go with class with thank you notes.

Write individual thank you note including why you are thankful for each person coming to dinner and address the envelope with their name. Place on the each seat and tada – table settings. Last minute drop in? You can just quickly write out another one and add it to the their seat. My favorite part is that you’ve added a special note that makes that person feel good and keeps the holidays on the true meaning of friends and family, not spending hours decorating.

Holiday-Meal-Planning

3. Streamline the Spirits.

I love having options, especially when it comes to wine, but it does get complicated when you take your menu and your guests into consideration. So instead of trying to pick the right red, white or something else for those that don’t drink wine, go with one signature cocktail and call it done.

I always serve sangria at Thanksgiving and we’ve never had complaints! Plus it looks very festive and can be made in advance so you can concentrate on other dinner making. My new sangria recipe includes fruit and rose. Rose you say? Yep, it’s not just for summer, fall in love with rose and this sangria recipe made with Barefoot Wine Rose that’s not only totally holiday perfect and all year ’round! (And at less than $10 a bottle makes it real easy to keep costs affordable.)

Rose Sangria

Rosé Sangria

Ingredients

1 bottle Barefoot Rosé still wine

2 ½ ounces dark rum

6 ¼ ounces each of pomegranate, white cranberry and orange juice

3 ¾ ounces maple syrup

Fresh red pear, green pear and orange cut into thin slices

Directions

Place prepared fruit into large pitcher. Pour in all liquid ingredients and stir briefly. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Serve over ice and top with fruit. Done.

4. Cut the China.

This one was a hard one for me because I LOVE beautiful china and glassware pieces. I’ve collected so many pieces over the years, however, I also am anxious the whole meal it’s going to get broken and then when the meal is over, immediately have to handwash them since they aren’t dishwasher safe. It’s just not worth it! But I’m not suggesting to break out the paper plates either. ThermoServ creates a melamine dinnerware called the Chef’s Collection Classic Series that can be incorporate into your table setting without the worry. Made with 100% Melamine, so it’s scratch and impact resistant (kids!). It;s also restaurant quality and BPA free with no fillers. I used my four place settings with plastic chargers and the table looked first-class without all the glass:)

5. Go with Comfort.

Doesn’t it seem assign that you wear some of the nicest clothes you own to eat greasy food and then lounge watching TV? So don’t.

It may have been your tradition, but at our holiday meal yoga pants and Pjs are our required attire. Everyone comes with a chipper disposition and no one gets their best clothes dirty. Besides who wants to watch the Cowboys in their heels and hose. We already bought ours holiday pjs at Target, so we’ll stay in them all day. Besides, they’re soft and make for comfy wear all day!

Now cheers and enjoy!

🚨 ACT NOW: Keep Public $$$ in Public Schools! 🚨

Click Here (takes less than one minute):
https://www.txpta.org/take-action

Tomorrow, March 11, the Texas House Committee on Public Education will hear HB 3. Let’s make it clear: Public money demands public accountability!

Texans have rejected vouchers since 1957—yet lawmakers are once again pushing them through with SB 2 and HB 3.

💰 Vouchers drain public school resources.
📉 They don’t improve student achievement.
❌ They aren’t about "parent choice"—private schools choose their students.
🏫 Texas parents already have school choice.

Governor Abbott is making vouchers a priority, but Texans are pushing back. Lawmakers are feeling the heat from voters who refuse to let public schools be undermined.

📲 Take 1 minute to make your voice heard NOW!

📷Jackson and Taylor are 2 of the 5.5 million reasons why Texas must keep public dollars in public schools. I was a product of public schools and had an amazing experience in a rural community with some of the best teachers. Change needs to happen, but taking away resources like these from schools is not especially when they ste already underfunded and our teachers’ morale is at an all time low. Communities work better together not when you separate them further apart.

🌲 Coca Cola Classic Christmas - Choctaw Stadium in Arlington
🗓️ Now through Dec. 29

Growing up @cocacola made the holidays magic, so when Coca Cola Classic rolled down the road, we had to go peek! Partnering with @enchantchristmas, the experience is part lights, part photo opps and for my kids mostly FOOD and overall a lot of fun - all washed down with (of course, a Coca Cola!)

What was also great was a little walk through memory lane with Coke Christmas moments throughout the years - cue the polar bears and 18 wheeler!

Experience:
🎅Market Square (definitely hit up the t-shirts - reading each one is half the fun)
🎅 Snow Tubing (always our favorite)Ice Skating (truth: we don’t skate, but it’s perfect people watching)
🎅 Interactive Light up Dance Floor
🎅 @cinemark Theatre with holiday movies
🎅 Coca-Cola Lounge - 21+ Cocktail experience (looked great to go with the girls)
🎅 Santa Landing

And of course, the Eatery! Eyes (and mouths) got big here with featured food from State Fair of Tex winners like The Drowning Tacos (SO GOOD we then ordered the Birria Tacos, too all cooked onsite and with all the sauce!)

It’s the real thing!

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without @prairielights- with a packed car with blankets, Santa hats, hot cocoa and coffee, and blasting holiday music while we sing them even louder.

A stunning two-mile drive through light park complete with a midway stop - The Holiday Village with carnival rides, amazing bites (corndogs, funnel cakes and more, oh my!) And this year we were surprised with a new light tunnel, reimagined walk-through forest and new displays, great photo opps, gifts, visit with Santa, a lighted strollable forest.  It’s perfectly timed for food, fun and a little time on foot!

PRO TIP: Go early, get tickets in advance and spring for the fast pass on the weekends and prime holiday times. And enjoy it and don’t try to rush it - enjoy it! That includes entry and the experience (so bathroom before you go, but thankfully there’s one at The Holiday Village and you get the corn dog.)

Named after Bangkok’s legendary road of entertainment of all kinds (Sukhumvit Soi 11), it seems fitting this newly imagined destination would find its home in Arlington’s Entertainment District. Anchoring the NEW @loewsarlington, @soycowboytx (also from @bbbutchers / @berghospitality) recently swung open the curtain this summer with an opening that made heads turn at every corner of this 12,000 sq. ft. of sexy space - with 3 unique bars, patio, viewable kitchen and dining room.

To call it a “Pan Asian restaurant” doesn’t do it justice with its rich menu of fresh sushi, dim sum, caviar, truffle, lobster, waygu (all things you don’t find in the home of the margarita machine and ballpark nachos.) And if you’re looking for entertainment, just take a peek into the expansive kitchen and watch your rolls or omakase be made. The cocktail menu is just as extravagant with everything from mezcal to Japanese whisky, you’re eyes will be just as happy as your lips upon your first sip.

While we experienced live music, fashion show and more as part of the opening, the cool smoke installation and the people-watching is definitely just part of the menu at Soy Cowboy you’ll have to explore.

Food Nerd Note: SoyCowboy is on the upcoming @dfwrestaurantweek menu for just $39, so it’s a steal to take your own trip on a budget. (Make your reservation.)
