Celebrate in 8: Quick Game Day Ideas

February 3, 2018 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Want to celebrate the big game, but don’t have any time outs to put it together? Here are quick game day ideas you can do to celebrate that take less than 8 minutes to do!

Even if you aren’t a big football fan, there’s just something about getting together on Sunday night for the BIG GAME for food and fun together.  Even if you don’t have a team to root for and you don’t have much time to put anything together, make it worth celebrating with these Quick Game Day Ideas. If you have 8 minutes (and especially if you have kids), you can still pull off a touchdown.

Just remember, the name of the game is TEAM! So do it together. Put the kids to work and to help you as part of the fun. Not only is it smart, but the “set up” is sometimes more fun than the real deal.

1. Snack Stadium

Bust out the chips and dip and you’re done! There’s no shame in your game with this quick “snack stadium” that can make your dips and chips (and whatever else look like a winning presentation with no work. Order it here or you can pick up at your nearby Party City.

2. Chocolate Chip Dip Football

Nicknamed “crack dip” by my friends, this recipe is a girlfriend’s favorite go to and she finally gave me the recipe! I made it shaped like a football and now who’s winning? This is the easiest recipe in the world and again – the kids can make it!

Ingredients

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup butter, softened

3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups mini semisweet chocolate chips (1 for the recipe, 1 for decorating)

Graham crackers, Teddy Grahams, etc.

Directions

In a small bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until blended. Add the sugars and vanilla and beat until smooth. Stir in chocolate chips. Shape like a football. Cover in chocolate chips. Place in the fridge for 1 hour (optional) and serve with graham crackers.

3. Game Time Bingo

Don’t just put the kids in another room, make them part of the fun! This football bingo can bring them into the game (and for those of us that don’t know football this is really a great way to learn!) Print it off and use the GoGo squeeZ tops (putting those babies to use for your markers) and play throughout the game! Of course have a great little something for the MVP that wins!

Gameday Football Bingo

4. LEGO Goal Post

Did I make this? NOPE! But my son who doesn’t care too much about football LOVED being able to add to the fun by building his own details to the party. What’s fun about this LEGO Goal Post is that it also doubles as a fun one to fold up some paper footballs for a little game within the big game. But don’t just stop there! Think about the fun stuff your kids can do and just let them! That’s the real touchdown in this parenting game – make them feel like you’re a team. (Cheesy rant over.)

5. Football Favor Boxes

Want to make sure the kids don’t go crazy on snacks or perhaps you do have them in another room watching their favorite movie? Then put together these premade Football favor boxes using snacks from your pantry to ensure they get a balance of healthy snacks. Plus it’s the fun it in cute sack or box that kids and just using the snacks you already have! Gameday Football Favor

6. Commercial Showdown

You know the commercials are your favorite part! So make it the feature of the party with a true showdown. Use cardstock to make your “official judging cards” and use them throughout the game to see which one really makes the cut! You can these cute ones or use this field template to download to write in your own!

Football Ad Showdown

7. Two-Step Mini Corndogs

I love these because they are exactly two things you need to make these mini corndogs: cornbread mix and a package of cocktail sausages. (Can’t go wrong with cocktail weenies, right?) Put them together and bam – you’re done. Grab the supporting team (ketchup and mustard) and you’re an all-star. If you want to make these from scratch, then go talk to her. Personally, I’m all about the easy eight minutes (ok, these take time to bake but it took me only 2 minutes to put them together.)

8. Buffalo Chicken Dip

By far this dip recipe will ALWAYS get the team rooting for you. With just a few ingredients, you mix it together, bake it and it’s game time. Add veggies, bread, your fingers (WHATEVER) for this must-have Buffalo Chicken Dip.

Ingredients

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar mix is great)

2 cup cooked chopped chicken, (<<<<<Rotisserie chicken for the win)

1/2 cup Buffalo wing sauce (I like this one!)

3/4 cup sour cream

1/4 Bleu cheese crumbles

Instructions

Mix it all up (except reserve a little cheddar and bleu cheese for the top.) Bake it at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Done.

JCPenney Back to School Video Rocks

August 4, 2016 By Autumn Rose Reo 1 Comment

Ready to get moving for Back to School? JCPenney is making a lot more fun with this fun video featuring great style and moves from the one and only Alfonso Ribiero. #SoWorthit

The countdown is on – and for us in Texas, we get the double benefit of tax-free weekend where approved school items are tax-free when purchased August 5-August 7. However, wherever you are looking for deals, you’re sure to find ‘em at your nearby JCPenney.

Back to School JCPenney

Expect great fashion and even great discounts to help you save money for back to school. However, they are getting us all in the mood with this fun video featuring my favorite bus driver, Alfonso Ribiero. Growing up he did the best ‘bus driver’ and even 20 years later, he’s still rocking the school bus with this crew of adorable kids moving and groovin’ to their own lip sync of Megan Trainor’s “Me Too.”

Just take a look and see if you can keep from dancing or singing.

I dare you…I double dog dare you.

What I love about this video is that the kids are hip and cool with fashions that I would love if my kids actually wore  – great style we can all agree on. Especially when it’s a great prices like you find at JCPenney. And of course, you just can’t help but wait to see how “Carleton” is going to break it down next.

Now “if I was you…” I’d get your rear in gear and get to your nearest JCPenney location this weekend for Back to School shopping that’s fun for everyone.

Facelogic Offers Free Treatment for the Holidays

December 9, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 1 Comment

I love holiday parties….especially the ones that allow me to catch up with other adults and don’t require me to wipe anyone’s bottom.

Best of all they give you an excuse to get dolled up and wear sequins (even if it’s not that kind of party.)

But with the stress of the holidays, even if my dress is sparkly, my face can sometimes be dull and tired. Or worst of all, if I resemble Rudolph from all the stress and late nights going to bed without cleaning my face.

So to save women (and men) everywhere from taking their skin into their own hands with a DIY solution, Facelogic Spa is offering a blemish obliterator treatment at no cost Dec. 15 and Dec. 29. Drinks and lite bits will be served, too!

Face

I’ve long been a been a big fan of Facelogic…They always can get me in and understand my crazy schedule to be no fuss and all relaxation when I come in. Also, Facelogic makes spa treatments affordable by their services for 20% than other other places. And the blemish elimination couldn’t be easier. With just one zap, the high-frequency technology clears up most skin breakouts in 24-48 hours. Don’t be alarmed – like most skincare treatments, the skin purges itself of toxins, dead skin cells and anything that prevents the blow. By day 2, dewy, blemish-free skin is revealed and you are ready for those parties!

The non-invasive treatment is safe for all ages and all skin types, and the results will leave you speechless: reduction in the appearance of wrinkles, skin tightening, reduction of fine lines, fading of dark circles and puffiness around the eye and just overall healthier skin.

And just in case you were wondering – if you were to pay for this treatment on any other day, the 15-minute express service would cost you $25 by itself or $15 if you combined it with a facial.

So consider this a little gift from Facelogic when you need it most with quick clear skin for Christmas.

This offer is open to the public with walk-ins or reservations accepted. However, if you’re really in a spot to get that spot off your face, I’d suggest you make an appointment to make sure you’re picture perfect this holiday season!

Pin Recipe

Description

This recipe was found in the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook but unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find it online so here it is as printed.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cake flour, sifted + 2 tablespoons cake flour, sifted
  • 1/2 cup sugar + 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/3 cup (11) egg whites
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • 4 well-beaten egg yolks
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Sift 1 cup flour with 1/2 cup sugar 3 times.
  2. Beat egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt until egg whites are stiff enough to hold up in soft peaks but are still moist and glossy.
  3. Add remaining 1 cup of sugar to egg whites, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating after each addition to blend. Sift about 1/4 of flour over egg-white mixture and fold in lightly.
  4. Fold in remaining flor-sugar mixture by fourths.
  5. Divide batter into 2 parts.
  6. Add orange juice and peel to egg yolks and beat with rotary beater until very thick.
  7. Fold the egg-yolk mixture and 2 tablespoons flour into 1/2 the batter.
  8. Fold vanilla into other 1/2 of batter.
  9. Spoon batters alternately into ungreased 10-inch tube pan; bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) about 30 minutes.
  10. Invert pan to cool.

Why Go to an Auto Show?

March 16, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 2 Comments

SponsoredPostDisclaimer

I thought going to an Auto Show was just for those gearheads or are in the auto business. Definitely NOT for a mom looking for a vehicle that can fit my family or my schedule.

However, I realized I was totally wrong. An Auto Show is actually the perfect place for a busy mom that is looking for a new car all in one place in one day. There are many other benefits, too.

With the upcoming Dallas Auto Show, March 25 – 29 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, make sure you take the time to reap the benefits of attendance.

2nd_Chevrolet_Equinox_--_03-16-2012

I’ve been driving a 2014 Chevy Equinox this week, so I’m excited to see what the 2016 has in store when I visit the DFW Auto Show. (Photo Credit)

1. Researching the top auto brands and multiple makes, models and more all in one place.
I once shopped at eight different auto dealerships and spent at least 16-20 hours traveling, talking and test driving. At the Dallas Auto Show, you’ll be able to cut to the chase, whether you’re just starting your research or you have a few already picked out and want to be able to evaluate them apples to apples. No matter where you are in the process, check out the Dallas Auto Show app for the most up-to-date details including a floor plan and/or connect on social for more details.

2. Talk to the Pros without the sales pitch.
I love the idea of the car show because you get to ask all the questions you want without there being any contract at the end of the day. I don’t make choices well on the fly about large purchases, so that type of pressure at the dealership isn’t my cup of tea, but the Auto Show gives you all the time you need to go look at a car, talk about another, go back to the other car – well you get the picture…you can be indecisive and not feel like you have to buy anything today. But if you find “the car,” you also can get headed in the right direction NOW so you can make your purchasing power a much easier process.

3. Benefit from all the promotional opportunities for deals, giveaways and more.
Just like many public shows, this event has several opportunities available for giveaways, freebies and incentives to make that car purchase. I’m a gal who is always looking for a deal, so this is right up my alley.

Made for More than Walking: Lane Boots

February 18, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 17 Comments

Like most girls, I can appreciate a pretty shoe.

I don’t care who you are (and what kind of shoe you wear), there’s nothing sexier than a pair of ruby-soled Louboutins.

So when I came across a local boot maker that sported a turquoise sole, I totally appreciated the Texas twist on a pair of their designer cowboy boots. But the blue hue wasn’t the only standout I discovered about Lane Boots.

Lane-Boots-MamaChallenge

Like Louboutins each pair of Lane Boots has its own personality complete with unmatched design, first-class quality, and even a unique name to boot (pun intended.)

After lusting after each of the different looks searching for the pair that spoke to me, I decided I’d slide the studded, black calfskin tallboy on just to take a look. After all, this much “pretty” must really mean that comfort was never part of the design plan (and I hadn’t seen anything on their marketing materials that said so either.) But once my heel was in place, I was surprised at how comfortable the boot was.  And a little walk around the room showed me that these weren’t your normal boots.

But then again nothing about Lane Boots is normal.

Lane-Boots-MamaChallenge

Based in Arlington, Texas, Lane Boots was born out of a business opportunity from entrepreneur Patrick Lane in 2007.  After being a boot broker for another line of boots, he wanted to create a boot company that not only celebrated the rich tradition of well-made Western boots but showed “the attitude in your style and a smile on your face” when you wear them; and Lane Boots was born.

Lane-Boots-Logo

Just looking at the more than 300 different styles, each boot had so much detail from the sophisticated embroidery, hand-applied studding, and unique artisan inlay design.  Although I don’t know much about how a boot is made,  these bench-made beauties are like “artwork for your feet” as each pair is handcrafted from the motherland of fine boot making in Leon, Mexico at the Lane Boot manufacturing facility.

Lane-Boots-MamaChallenge

Even though comfort isn’t their selling proposition, like me, once you put a pair on, you know why you’ll be a customer for life.  With a  four-layer process of heel liner, heel cushion, insole and sole, you can tell these boots can be used for a lot more than a little walking…you’ll be ready to go all day in your Lane Boots.

However, good luck trying to decide on your first pair.

Lane Boots are available online or at several western wear and clothing retailers including 11 Main.

Good Deals, Good Deeds with Tango Tab

November 28, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo 5 Comments

I wish I could be the mom that has a healthy dinner, prepared and ready to go at 5:30 PM.

But it doesn’t happen very often.

And even with the best laid plans, our family has to put together a plan for dinner that doesn’t mean going through a drive-through.

That’s why the free TangoTab has become part of our routine when choosing a place to dine.  Not only does it give me a suggestion and great offer, every time you use a free TangoTab restaurant deal through your TangoTab app, they donate a meal to a person in need through a local charity. So while I eat, someone who needs a meal gets one too.

TangoTab

Checking my TangoTab app for nearby offers, Texas Land & Cattle popped up with 20% off my tab or a free shared plate, so I claimed it and off we went!

One of my go-to favorites for salmon, I ordered the grilled salmon and a side of brussels sprouts. But I found out there were lots of other great offers happening with the holidays.

Salmon Texas Land and Cattle
TEXAS SMOKED BOARD FOR TWO ǀ  Famous House Smoked Sirloin, bacon-wrapped stuffed quail with sweet potato hash, and roasted pork loin topped with whiskey demi-glace, all smoked to perfection. Served with choice of two side salads or cups of soup & two side items 44.99

Enjoy $5 Off a select bottle of wine when you purchase the Texas Smoked Board.

main-home-ranchero-enchiladas

And because it’s the holidays, it’s a great time to enjoy a cocktail or two with your steak, enchiladas or both!

BOURBON BLITZEN ǀ Maker’s Mark Bourbon with a splash of Kahlúa
CRANBERRY APPLETINI ǀ Tito’s Handmade Texas Vodka, Apple Pucker, fresh cranberry juice
WHITE CHRISTMAS ǀ Absolut Vanilla, Amaretto, cream, swirled with chocolate

The Holiday Menu is available through January 10 at all locations.

main-home-sandwich-tacos

But even with the holidays, you can enjoy any day of the week’s specials. However, my favorite is TEXICAN TUESDAYS with $3 specialty tacos!

The Dirty Bird – Cilantro lime marinated sliced grilled chicken, crispy onion strings, cabbage-jicama slaw, spicy ranchero sauce, flour tortilla
The Big Catch – Crispy battered redfish, cabbage-jicama slaw, pico de gallo, bayou aioli, flour tortilla
The Cowboy – Hand breaded sirloin, pepper cream gravy, cabbage-jicama slaw, sliced jalapeño, flour tortilla

The best worst kept secret in DFW is McKinney, Tex The best worst kept secret in DFW is McKinney, Texas. 🤫

Recently featured on Good Morning America, this “suburb” is like all the stuff you want in a small town and all the stuff you still need in a big town - and SO. MUCH. MORE. When a meetup of friends gave me a chance to experience the downtown McKinney Square on a Saturday morning, I’ve spent every weekend since trying to find a reason to go back.

A few of my favorites included:
📍 Farmers Market at Chestnut Square Heritage Village (@chestnutsquaremckinney)
📍 Local Yocal BBQ (@localyocalfarmtomarket)
📍 Red Zepplin Records (@redzeppelinrecords)
📍 My Favorite Room (@myfavoriteroombykbmdesigns)
📍 Boho Moonchild (@bohomoonchildjewelry)
📍 Homeology (@homeology_interiors)
📍 The Yard (@theyardmckinneytx)
AND SO MANY MORE I HAVEN’T VISITED!

With so much to offer from a huge farmers market, local art, cool spots to eat and drink and so many unique spots to shop, I was already creating my itinerary for “next time” before I left. (So I am open to recommendations for places to stay if you have them!)

Thank you, @VisitMcKinneyTX & @downtownmckinney for inviting me.

IYKYK. #TacoTuesday And for you #keto fans, you b IYKYK. #TacoTuesday

And for you #keto fans, you better write this one down!

I’ve never heard of @jimboystacos (even though it’s been around since the 50s), but I’m so glad I have now. Errands brought me to the drive-thru at its one of 2 Texas location in #FortWorth.

Three cars in line must mean it’s good, so I rolled up and low and behold they have #keto taco - chicken, pick, avocado, cheese and even a southwest sauce - all wrapped up with a lettuce leaf! While it wasn’t the prettiest taco it definitely was one of my faves! And since I was there, I grabbed a few others for the family to try. So. Freaking. Good.

I would say I have a new favorite especially with all its fresh ingredients, but the Keto Taco is only here until March 15. So get yours while you can 🌮

Thanks, Jimboy for nudging me in the right direction for tacos!

So much to love! ❤️ There’s so much I coul So much to love! ❤️

There’s so much I could say that I love on this special day, but at the top of the list is my son who first made me a mama! While it is Valentine’s Day, for me February is also always a reminder that it is congenital heart defect awareness month, a condition that one and 100 children are diagnosed with every year, including my son when he was born. Thankfully we had access to care that saved his life. But only 1 in 10 kids has access to healthcare to help them.
So any time I can support CHD research and awareness, we want to give back. I am excited the @dallasjackals (actually located in #ArlingtonTx) are donating $5 dollars to @childrensheartlink with every $20 purchased!

October has definitely flown by and I couldn’t believe how many of my favorite experiences we didn’t get to attend, but an afternoon at @sixflagsovertexas took care of a lot of my fall bucket list! Halloween fun, seeing the leaves start to change, one of the best strudels + a true Oktoberfest bier, and picture moments galore - we’re all checked off!

With three festivals - including Fright Fest, Boo Fest and a new Oktoberfest Food Festival, the whole family had a great day at @sixflagsovertexas. And paired with a flash pass and an All day cup (thank you, Six Flags) you can’t go wrong enjoying Texas fall in #DFW.

Just in time for the 70th Birthday of #BigTex, we Just in time for the 70th Birthday of #BigTex, we celebrated with a family trip to the @statefairoftx.

There’s always so much to see and do, but for us it’s the FOOD! So many people asked us what’s the best thing thing to eat, so here’s our short list of #musteats at the State Fair of Texas!

✔️Every good Texan knows your first stop (and also your last) is @fletcherscornydogs. But did you know there’s more than the original to try? Go for the Dallas Hot Bird Dog dippes in spicy batter, deep-fried, split open and then piled high max and cheese, @cholulahotsauce and crispy jalapeños. #Daymade and you just started!

✔️ Pay homage to the to who @texasmonthly calls the “high priest of frying, @chef_abel, and order up his newest creation, the Doh-Muf: part fluffy donut, part muffin and all goodness with Bavarian cream and coated in banana nut muffin batter. Want to up the ante? Then while you’re there, snag the fried PBJ. (Ask for the Priscilla, just like the King.)

✔️ Don’t fly off too far…get another new dish - the Texas Ranch Hog Wings from @nevinsconcessions. Grab lots of napkins and The Fried Charcuterie Board from this dynamic duo.

✔️ I hope you’re not full because we aren’t finished yet - it’s time to get your greens on from @chefcassy. Deep fried collard greens of course served with a honey-glazed chicken wing! 🐔

✔️ Quite possibly the fastest thing we ate - was the Ultimate Brookie Monster from @smokeyjohnsbbq. It may not be pretty, but with chocolate chip cookie + brownie, @oreo, marshmallow, all deep fried and served with @bluebellicecream, cheesecake crumbles and strawberry sauce…it’s the ultimate dessert (because everything is in it!)

✔️ Like a corn dog, no trip to the fair is complete without a funnel cake from @ferniesfunnelcakes. It’s the perfect nibble as you people watch your way through the fair (and burn off a few calories before you eat again.)

✔️ So you done yet? You might be for now, so make sure to grab your @stifflersmomscookiefactory to go and wash it down with a dirty soda (ask and they’ll show you!)

HBD, #BigTex - we enjoyed it!
