Bounce Better with Sports Bras from Title Nine

September 30, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 20 Comments

One of my first blog posts was about my #mamachallenge to find the right way to “Tame the Ta-Tas.”

Hitting the gym takes on a whole new meaning if you are a gal with some sizable girls (and I’m not talking about your children here!)

Who’s worn two bras to stop the bounce? Who couldn’t wait to rip their sports bra off after a workout? Who’s bra straps are digging into their shoulders right now? We want to know, and we want to help! Read more in our latest blog post (link in bio). #bravangelists

The lack of good sports bras is often the biggest deterrent to regular exercise. The average American woman wears a 36C bra, however the vast majority of sports bras are built for A and B-cup women. However, Title Nine claims to have a solution to our bra dilemma. They tested thousands of bras and found just the right ones to not only support out workouts and our curves, whether you’re a 32AA or 40EEE.

In addition to the fear of being potentially judged for using bad form or potentially passing out during my workout, the concern that the girls are plopping around as I leap into a burpee or do a set of jumping jacks. But the Title Nine expert bra fit specialist, i.e. their bravangelists, will personally fit you to ensure that you leave with the right support.

Hallelujah for hooters!

And this isn’t just a treat for me, anyone in North Texas can find the support you’ve been searching for at the Title Nine Dallas Fit Fest on Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8. They have a variety of styles, colors and sizes to meet every woman’s needs, even the nursing mom.

I don’t know about you, but the idea of having full support while completing my workout brings a smile to my face.  And since everyone should feel a little bounce in their step and not in their boobs, I’m giving away one personalized fitting at your local Title Nine store AND for a bra of your choice.

Four Fast Lowfat Chicken Recipes

September 28, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 8 Comments

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Tyson®. The opinions and text are all mine.

Remember that line at the end of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off where he said “Life Moves Pretty Fast?”

I had no idea then what that would really mean until I became a mom.

Every day after that has been a sprint, but unfortunately there are few too many rest spots and the race never ends.

That’s why no matter how much I try to meal plan healthy dishes for my family, there are some days “it ain’t happening.”

Four Fast Lowfat Chicken Recipes

But I have learned a shortcut that doesn’t require going through the drive thru and take less time than getting online to look up the menu for your favorite delivery.

Using Tyson® Grilled & Ready® Fully Cooked Refrigerated Chicken, I’m now able to create a quick lunch or dinner that I can make in less than five minutes (yes, 5), my kids will eat, the adults will like and doesn’t blow our calorie count for the week on one meal. That’s right, quick and lowfat chicken recipes.

Just like my normal grocery staple when I run to Walmart for bagged salad, milk ,and eggs in the refrigerated section, I’ve added Tyson® Grilled & Ready® Fully Cooked Refrigerated Fajita Chicken Strips or Tyson® Grilled & Ready® Fully Cooked Refrigerated Oven Roasted Diced Chicken Breast to the list. They are a quick and easy way to make a meal just for one or the whole family when the day goes fast than we can keep up with!

Tyson-Chicken

And since I’m always working to find a recipe that’s not just good to eat, but good for you to eat, these recipes with Tyson® aren’t just easy and quick to make, I’ve made them lowfat, too. And did I also mention most of these are made with less five ingredients! #everydayeffortless, right?

My Lone Star Love Story with Migas

September 26, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 10 Comments

SponsoredPostDisclaimer

My love story with migas is actually a real love story.

Actually, the night I met my husband we spent hours learning about each other over a plate of enchiladas and margaritas.

So when only a few months after we had dated he moved to Mexico for a study abroad program, I was devastated. However, during my first trip to visit him, I was destined to make him a Mexican dish that he was enjoy so much he’d wonder why he ever left Texas and would want to come home.

Lonestar-Migas

Not necessarily a practical idea, but at 22 and in love, you’re willing to do anything. Besides, there’s a southern saying that says the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. And I was going to do whatever I could do to try to put that to the test.

So over a one-burner stove in a not-so-glamourous apartment in Monterrey, I found a skillet, a few things in the fridge including eggs, tortilla, and green chiles, and walked through the steps of my first skillet of migas.

Ingredients

…Whether it was the setting, the ingredients, or just the fact that anything with eggs are good, that plate of migas was buttery, spicy and just dang amazing.  And apparently the dish worked since only three months into his study abroad program, he came home to stay.

I like to say it was the migas that brought him back to Texas. And even if it was a little more than that, that first attempt at migas has blossomed into our first of many family dishes.

So with a few tweaks, I share my love story with you in hopes you’ll be able to love someone over a plate of migas one day.

You’re Invited…Party in Pink with Talbots for Breast Cancer

September 23, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 2 Comments

Fall is  my favorite season for of course, obvious reasons – the biggest one being that my name is Autumn.

For this Texan, it means cooler temperatures, pumpkin everything and time to pull out those beautiful sweaters and ponchos you see on Pinterest we rarely get to wear.  It also means that everything goes pink – even me – to support a cause that is very near and dear to me, breast cancer awareness.

To kick off its second annual Party in Pink, Talbots is rolling out the pink carpet for its unveiling of their new ‘pink’ collection their Northpark Center in Dallas on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 6 – 8 p.m…and you’re invited!

Talbots Party in Pink

With every purchase from the eight-piece line, 20% of the net proceeds will benefit National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. early detection, education and support services. This limited collection includes a variety of clothes, accessories and outerwear such an adorable pink heart sweater, a cozy striped wrap (my personal favorite) and pink stone jewelry.

pink wrap

There will be drawings for gift cards and as all good Dallas parties should be, refreshments will be served!  Plus, you can shop the new collection on opening day (The breast cancer collection will be available in stores and online at talbots.com through the end of October.) So wear your best pink, strike a pose on the pink carpet for a “photo op” and tag #WearHeartsGiveHope.

Want to be a part of the fun? Just RSVP to DALLASRSVP@TALBOTS.COM and you’re in!

As a woman, you can’t not be passionate about breast cancer. Stats show that 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer and as the #2 leading killer of women, you’re going to be affected by breast cancer in some way.

Organizations like the NBCF help bring awareness and encourage our sisters, mothers, daughters and friends to get mammographies that can possible detect it before it’s too late.

And if buying a pink weater saves one more life, then sign me up.

Raise Smarter, Healthier and Happier Kids by Playing

September 22, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 16 Comments

SponsoredPostDisclaimer

Gone are the days of going outside to play, tossing a baseball or football in the cul de sac, and riding bikes for hours in the neighborhood. Scary stories about innocent children being abducted made us all nervous about the whereabouts of our kids, and the debut of fancy mobile devices and high-tech video games made outdoor fun seem a little lame.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with the technology. I rely on it to work and also enjoy my Pinterest time in bed after hours. However, there is something magical about simply playing with others, and discovering the world with just your imagination.

PlayingintheWater

And that’s what the Genius of Play campaign is all about. Kids need a variety of play options to develop into well-rounded adults. From running around the yard to enjoying arts and crafts or enjoying group games, these day-to-day interactions are actually experiences children will take with them in life…even if THEY don’t realize that.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children spend at least 60 minutes of open-ended play. Experts agree by teaching kids lessons and important life skills, play has a profound impact on childhood development. It improves cognitive abilities, hones communication skills, increases creativity, helps children process and express emotions, develops physical skills and enhances social skill.

Frozen-Angels

Kids who play with literacy materials, like pretending to read to stuffed animals, have better languages abilities in kindergarten. Playing make-believe games is actually essential for kids who to develop a sense of curiosity and learn how to respond to different situations. Talking, singing, reading and playing are the best ways to stimulate children’s brain development.

There are dozens of surveys and studies about excessive use of technology for small children, but so far, I’m not seeing any disadvantages to good old-fashioned play time. These games are actually a fun teaching tool and interactive way you can engage with your kids.

And it doesn’t take a lot to do some of these activities. Whether the sun is shining or it’s pouring down raining outside, any day is perfect for play. Plus, with the weather cooling off, or at least it should in a few weeks, now is a perfect time to try out these fun games.

The hardest part of is probably going to be convincing your children to try out a new kind of unstructured fun and honestly making time each week with everything else you have going on. But it’s something that could have a life-changing impact on your child. Maybe you won’t see it immediately, but there will be long-term positive results, even if it’s nothing more than spending quality time with your family.

Playing

I didn’t grow up with any of fancy devices children have today. The fanciest thing we had was Fisher Price’s brown tape player and a Snoopy Snow Cone Maker. Still, I would like to believe that my development as an adult is directly related to the imaginative free play I had growing up.  I made the most memories playing with my friend Shana at my grandparents’ backyard all summer, making four-course meals out of mud, grass and pecans.

Funny enough not much has changed except now I’m old enough to use the stove.

The Secret To Getting it All Done

September 21, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 75 Comments

SponsoredPostDisclaimerWhen was the last time you got a good night’s sleep?

I don’t just mean slept for eight hours. I mean went to bed, waking up and actually feeling rested.

I know, it almost seems like a contradiction….moms who sleep?

Moms-Dont-Sleep

As a working mom, wife and blogger, sleep is not at the top of my to-do list, but I know it’s a necessity. However, it seems impossible in the fight to getting it all done, right?

Doctors have connected so many illness and ailments to a lack of sleep. Your body can simply not function to its highest capacity if you are exhausted. Now, I believe that moms have some superpowers that overtakes our bodies during childbirth, giving us the ability to do things we were never able to do before. Still, it isn’t a bad thing to have a help from two little friends from the CVS radiance PLATINUM B12 & Melatonin.

B12andMelatonin
You’ve may heard that B12 can be helpful for weight loss and energy. Sometimes it’s given as a shot to give you a boost of energy to help with workouts, but honestly it’s required for proper function and development of the brain, nerves and blood cells. The B vitamins have a role in the energy and metabolism in our body. It’s very common for individuals to a B12 deficiency which has all sorts of side effects including autoimmune diseases, mental illnesses and cancer.

But by taking one pill daily, you boost your body’s systems and gives them a jolt to function at their highest capacity.

Melatonin is a natural hormone made by your body’s pineal gland. During the day, the gland is inactive, but when the sun goes down and darkness occurs, the gland “turns on” and the melatonin in our body rises making our bodies less alert and active. Melatonin is a vampire. It only comes out when you’re in a dark or dimly lit area. It’s perfect for individuals who are trying to switch their sleep schedule or who may need a little help falling asleep each night.

You should take 0.3 – 1 mg of melatonin 90 minutes before you to go sleep. If you’re needing more than 1 mg of melatonin, speak with your physician first. Melatonin is a powerful aid and may actually disrupt your sleeping pattern and leave your more tired and groggy.

DISCLAIMER:

Please consult your physician and speak with the pharmacy team at CVS to learn more about what vitamins, supplements, etc. are ideal for you.

As parents, we don’t complain about the lack of sleep we get on a daily and weekly basis. There are so many people, activities and responsibilities pulling us in a million directions. We just got to get it done. Not sleeping, however, is not only detrimental to our health, but could also impact the safety of our families as well.

Sleep deprivations decreases a range of cognitive abilities such as reaction time, alertness and (ironically) working memory or the ability to juggle multiple tasks. Hello that’s what we do every day. The National Institutes of Health found that two weeks of six hours of sleep per night caused declines in many ways – similar to those found after a full 24-48 hours of sleep deprivation.

Doctor Visit

Another study by NIH found that cognitive performance of people who had been awake for 18-19 hours was comparable to those with a blood alcohol content of 0.10. We know the legal limit for driving in most U.S. states is 0.08. And the study found that more 1,500 people die every year from fatigue-related vehicle crashes.

[Tweet “NIH found cognitive performance of people awake for 18+ hours was comparable to BAC of 0.10. “]

Sure you don’t want to drive your kids around after a few glasses of wine, but shuffling them from school to extracurricular activities with minimal sleep is just as dangerous.  Chew on that for a second.

Don’t be too prideful to admit that you need sleep or that you’re exhausted. No one is going to think less of you if you find ways (good ones that is) to get a good night’s sleep. B12 and Melatonin are simple supplements that will help you get the necessary rest you need to be the best person you can be for your family, friends and employers. As parents, our needs become secondary to the needs of our children. Don’t wait until the new year comes to make a resolution, make a decision now to make better lifestyle choices for you and your family.

Sweetest and Easiest Birthday How-To

September 14, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 2 Comments

Too busy to create a sweet birthday for your daughter? This party plan made it easy for me to create the Sweetest and Easiest Birthday for my little one that was one for the books!

Disclaimer

I love to throw my kids birthday parties. Each year I set out to top the one before and then when I had the second kid, I now had two opportunities to show I was the hostess with the mostest…

Then life happened.

And my special superhuman party-throwing power ran out. I just couldn’t put my creative hat on or get my party-planning skills to work anymore. And it couldn’t happen at a worse time…my daughter’s fourth birthday.

Luckily a friend recommended a tea room nearby called A Moment in Time in Arlington that would handle everything for the perfect birthday experience from invitations to games, to favors and clean up. EVERYTHING.

I had only three tasks: pick a date, order the cupcakes, and show up.

And really, that was it. And I had nothing but compliments for the party…the one I didn’t plan. at. all.

Just take a look at the fun we had and I planned nothing!

But when all the fun was over from her big birthday, I felt bad that she didn’t have anything special to celebrate her actual birthday three days later.

However, we had our fill of cupcakes and since her birthday was mid-week, I wanted something that would last and still make that special impression that she got something delivered.

What a sweet way to say Happy Birthday to our special little girl! With cookies shaped like cupcakes she’s got the best of both! #cookiesbydesign #happybirthday

With fresh baked, hand-decorated cookie bouquets (individually wrapped, too!) and same-day delivery, Cookies by Design made it easy for me to do something special without really doing anything but click and wait – just a day at that!

I loved all the creative bouquet choices – especially the gluten-free options. Whether you need to send a thank you gift or just need a standout party centerpiece, Cookies by Design has just the right choice for you!

The Not-Com Shift: Why companies are moving from .com to not-com

September 13, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 22 Comments

Tracking Pixel
For the last 30 years that people have been using email (yes, it’s already been that long), we’ve already programmed ourselves to say “our email provider.COM” as the way to reach us online.  When you get a web address to check out, your brain already adds the .com before it’s even uttered. But have you ever stopped to think what’s the point of using a dot.com? We’ve partnered with to take a look at why companies are moving from .com to not-com.

So first of all, why does a dot.com hold more distinction than a .org, .net, or even a .coffee? Well, honestly, it doesn’t. Especially in a world that now thinks how to share it’s message in no more than 140 characters. It’s just extra time, money and space that you could be using to describe your business, to be more distinctive, and for many companies, including international organizations, it’s part of the big shift from .com to the new not-com.

According to the Domain Name Industry Brief survey in 2014, there are about 284 million registered domain names. And it’s been approximated that there are almost 1 billion websites on the Internet.

When you are a business trying to stand out in a crowd, you have to do something innovative, but that makes sense…like opting for a not-com instead a dot.com.

A New Branding Tool

While picking a company name is a hard enough process within itself, with so many other websites and domains, the likelyhood your name is already in use is pretty high. So in the past, we’ve gotten creative, but adding a hyphen or spelling out the dot.com. These solutions may have worked to get your company on the web, but it didn’t do any favors to help potential customers to find you or your website. However, by using a not-com., you’ve opened your business up to a whole new set of branding rules.

Picking-the-Right-Name-For-Business

Still deciding on your business name? Get tips to Picking the Right Name for Your Business.

For Icarus Photography (www.icarus.photos), business owner Katy Lengacher made the switch because she wanted to amplify her brand and carve out a niche in wedding photography.

Having a unique domain that describes what I’m thinking about, doing and breathing all day was a no-brainer,” Lengacher says. “It’s the perfect new branding identity tool. ”

Read more about why Lengacher picked her name and why a not-com.

Start a Buzz

These “not-com” options like .photos or .photography have obvious benefits, including memorability, meaning and availability. Choices like .COFFEE, .FLORIST, and .STYLE  immediately conjure images to the consumer, while words like .COMPANY, .BUSINESS and .MEDIA have broader appeal. And let’s just consider the SEO opportunity for you here, as well. If you’re a coffee company, then let’s just say you’re coffee company, not a coffee company.com.

Photo Driftaway Coffee

And that’s exactly what Driftaway Coffee (www.driftaway.coffee) did when NY owners Suyog Mody and Anu Menon made the jump not just from corporate America but to a coffee subscription service that that delivers personalized fresh-roasted coffee to your door. The ‘dot-coffee (.coffee) has provided them a obvious digital storefront and been a great conversation starter.

We are an online business exclusively selling online,” says Mody. “It’s a URL that implies what we do.”

Bring Your Business to the Customer

When you’re trying to not just teach people about a topic, but also stir up sales from your business, you have double the work for marketing your business and the subject matter.

For authors Kirsten and Christopher Shockey, they wanted to educate people about fermentation as a culinary art and hopefully, point people to buy their book. So The Fermista’s Kitchen (www.ferminista.kitchen) was born.

People like to be in their kitchen, and we want it to bring this idea that fermentation is really easy and really accessible into your life.” says Kirsten Shockey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breast halves (or chicken thighs, approximately 6-8)
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can petite diced tomatoes with green chilies
  • 1 red, orange and green bell pepper, julienned
  • 1 large yellow onion, halved and sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 3/4 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl whisk together chili powder, cumin, paprika, coriander, salt and pepper. Evenly sprinkle seasoning over both sides of the chicken breasts.
  2. Now pour the tomatoes into the bottom of a slow cooker and spread into an even layer. Top with peppers and onions. Then add garlic and lastly, the seasoned chicken.
  3. Cover and cook on HIGH heat 3 – 4 hours or low heat 6 – 8 hours, until chicken has cooked through and peppers are tender. (Depending on your slow cooker, you can do less heat for sliced fajitas or more for shredded.)
  4. Remove chicken and cut into strips or shred. Gently toss a little of the broth onto fajitas for more flavor. Now serve warm in warmed tortillas with sour cream, guacamole, cheese and salsa.

Doubled-down and won big! Congrats to @daynetxbbq Doubled-down and won big! Congrats to @daynetxbbq for being named #7 in @texasmonthly 2025 Top 50 BBQ!

We’ve done our own BBQ stop shopping this last year from our own @hurtadobbq, @smokenashbbq and @225bbq in Arlington, @goldeesbbq and @panthercitybbq in Fort Worth, @zavalasbarbecue in Grand Prairie and @franklinbbq in Austin, no one can say that BBQ is BBQ. It’s as vastly different as the landscape as Texas. Now I’m off to @burntbeanco - #sequin here we come with the rest of the state!

🚨 ACT NOW: Keep Public $$$ in Public Schools! 🚨

Click Here (takes less than one minute):
https://www.txpta.org/take-action

Tomorrow, March 11, the Texas House Committee on Public Education will hear HB 3. Let’s make it clear: Public money demands public accountability!

Texans have rejected vouchers since 1957—yet lawmakers are once again pushing them through with SB 2 and HB 3.

💰 Vouchers drain public school resources.
📉 They don’t improve student achievement.
❌ They aren’t about "parent choice"—private schools choose their students.
🏫 Texas parents already have school choice.

Governor Abbott is making vouchers a priority, but Texans are pushing back. Lawmakers are feeling the heat from voters who refuse to let public schools be undermined.

📲 Take 1 minute to make your voice heard NOW!

📷Jackson and Taylor are 2 of the 5.5 million reasons why Texas must keep public dollars in public schools. I was a product of public schools and had an amazing experience in a rural community with some of the best teachers. Change needs to happen, but taking away resources like these from schools is not especially when they ste already underfunded and our teachers’ morale is at an all time low. Communities work better together not when you separate them further apart.

🌲 Coca Cola Classic Christmas - Choctaw Stadium in Arlington
🗓️ Now through Dec. 29

Growing up @cocacola made the holidays magic, so when Coca Cola Classic rolled down the road, we had to go peek! Partnering with @enchantchristmas, the experience is part lights, part photo opps and for my kids mostly FOOD and overall a lot of fun - all washed down with (of course, a Coca Cola!)

What was also great was a little walk through memory lane with Coke Christmas moments throughout the years - cue the polar bears and 18 wheeler!

Experience:
🎅Market Square (definitely hit up the t-shirts - reading each one is half the fun)
🎅 Snow Tubing (always our favorite)Ice Skating (truth: we don’t skate, but it’s perfect people watching)
🎅 Interactive Light up Dance Floor
🎅 @cinemark Theatre with holiday movies
🎅 Coca-Cola Lounge - 21+ Cocktail experience (looked great to go with the girls)
🎅 Santa Landing

And of course, the Eatery! Eyes (and mouths) got big here with featured food from State Fair of Tex winners like The Drowning Tacos (SO GOOD we then ordered the Birria Tacos, too all cooked onsite and with all the sauce!)

It’s the real thing!

🗓️ Now through Dec. 31 (NYE) at 6 pm

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without @prairielights- with a packed car with blankets, Santa hats, hot cocoa and coffee, and blasting holiday music while we sing them even louder.

A stunning two-mile drive through light park complete with a midway stop - The Holiday Village with carnival rides, amazing bites (corndogs, funnel cakes and more, oh my!) And this year we were surprised with a new light tunnel, reimagined walk-through forest and new displays, great photo opps, gifts, visit with Santa, a lighted strollable forest.  It’s perfectly timed for food, fun and a little time on foot!

PRO TIP: Go early, get tickets in advance and spring for the fast pass on the weekends and prime holiday times. And enjoy it and don’t try to rush it - enjoy it! That includes entry and the experience (so bathroom before you go, but thankfully there’s one at The Holiday Village and you get the corn dog.)

Named after Bangkok’s legendary road of entertainment of all kinds (Sukhumvit Soi 11), it seems fitting this newly imagined destination would find its home in Arlington’s Entertainment District. Anchoring the NEW @loewsarlington, @soycowboytx (also from @bbbutchers / @berghospitality) recently swung open the curtain this summer with an opening that made heads turn at every corner of this 12,000 sq. ft. of sexy space - with 3 unique bars, patio, viewable kitchen and dining room.

To call it a “Pan Asian restaurant” doesn’t do it justice with its rich menu of fresh sushi, dim sum, caviar, truffle, lobster, waygu (all things you don’t find in the home of the margarita machine and ballpark nachos.) And if you’re looking for entertainment, just take a peek into the expansive kitchen and watch your rolls or omakase be made. The cocktail menu is just as extravagant with everything from mezcal to Japanese whisky, you’re eyes will be just as happy as your lips upon your first sip.

While we experienced live music, fashion show and more as part of the opening, the cool smoke installation and the people-watching is definitely just part of the menu at Soy Cowboy you’ll have to explore.

Food Nerd Note: SoyCowboy is on the upcoming @dfwrestaurantweek menu for just $39, so it’s a steal to take your own trip on a budget. (Make your reservation.)
