The last few weeks have been full of making preparations, gathering school supplies, and winding down the last days of summer,  so we all could send off the kids for another year of school.

Then the day came to whisk them off to beat the first bell in their first-day-of-school outfits with new backpacks to encounter another new adventure.

I’m not sure that day who was more scared or excited…me or them.

I know while I will always treasure the time I had with them as babies, I know it’s time for all of us to move to the next stage of our lives as a family, to grow, to expand, and to create the best future for all of us. And as I drove away in my rarely quite car, for the first time in a long time, I finally have a chance to really think about me and what it is I want to be able to do not just with my day, but my future.

As the first four-year college graduate in my family, I was excited to walk across the stage, accept my degree, and go take on the world. While I was blessed to have a good job that offered me tons of experience, responsibility, and travel at a young age, eventually, getting married and starting a family also became part of the plan… and the work thing had to share a little of my time.

Wedding-Shot

Like many parents whose stories sound very similar, somewhere along the way, life took over and I was able to be there for those little steps, big spills and all the other stuff along the way. However, now that nap time and potty training aren’t on the schedule for me, I’ve started spending a lot more time looking into my kids’ education, how they learn and how I can help.  I mean we can all agree that school is not what it used to be, but now with kids “in the system,” I feel a huge sense of responsibility to be an active participant in the education process.

Lucky for me Through a lot of hard work, while I was working those early years in corporate America, I was also able to earn a masters degree in training and development through the miracle of the Internet. The flexibility to be able to work, travel and still go to school “on my time” was something I’m so thankful I did; not just for the benefit of having a degree, but for being able one day to share with my children as an example to “always reach for the stars.” That degree has helped me not just professionally in my career, but often to be able to understand and communicate with others through technology, and give back to my community.

Although that time was over seven years ago and the world of online education has only improved with increased flexibility, options and the variety of degrees you can…at home, at Starbucks or where ever you need to be in front of a computer.

Kaplan University is a great option for parents like myself looking to figure out how a degree in education can be the right fit to make your next step. Whether you’re considering becoming a teacher to increase your family’s income or broadening your educational expertise, the School of Education Virtual Advisor helps identify a graduate education degree and specialization that supports your goals. Through the VA, you’ll also learn that a degree in education is a vast career with choices in traditional educational environments like a school or university, but also jobs in non-profits, corporations and more with a degree in educational psychology.

Ready to embark on your own adventure in going back to school? See if is the right choice for you.

I too was able to get my master’s degree online. I actually started my program after my first child was born and was able to work and do school online for the next year and a half, until I finished. It was a great accomplishment for me. Now if I can just pay off those pesky student loans.

I received my Masters Degree through an online University at the time it was because I was moving out of the country and knew i would not be able to sit in a traditional classroom through to graduation. Not only did it give me the flexibility I needed but it was an accelerated program which allowed me to finish before we left the country. While I did it when I was younger it is never too late to go back to school at any level. My mom is a professor and she has a number of students each year that are around her age and some are even older!

🚨 ACT NOW: Keep Public $$$ in Public Schools! 🚨

Click Here (takes less than one minute):
https://www.txpta.org/take-action

Tomorrow, March 11, the Texas House Committee on Public Education will hear HB 3. Let’s make it clear: Public money demands public accountability!

Texans have rejected vouchers since 1957—yet lawmakers are once again pushing them through with SB 2 and HB 3.

💰 Vouchers drain public school resources.
📉 They don’t improve student achievement.
❌ They aren’t about "parent choice"—private schools choose their students.
🏫 Texas parents already have school choice.

Governor Abbott is making vouchers a priority, but Texans are pushing back. Lawmakers are feeling the heat from voters who refuse to let public schools be undermined.

📲 Take 1 minute to make your voice heard NOW!

📷Jackson and Taylor are 2 of the 5.5 million reasons why Texas must keep public dollars in public schools. I was a product of public schools and had an amazing experience in a rural community with some of the best teachers. Change needs to happen, but taking away resources like these from schools is not especially when they ste already underfunded and our teachers’ morale is at an all time low. Communities work better together not when you separate them further apart.

WHERE TO CHRISTMAS IN DFW WITH TEENS // Classic Ch WHERE TO CHRISTMAS IN DFW WITH TEENS // Classic Christmas

🌲 Coca Cola Classic Christmas - Choctaw Stadium in Arlington
🗓️ Now through Dec. 29

Growing up @cocacola made the holidays magic, so when Coca Cola Classic rolled down the road, we had to go peek! Partnering with @enchantchristmas, the experience is part lights, part photo opps and for my kids mostly FOOD and overall a lot of fun - all washed down with (of course, a Coca Cola!)

What was also great was a little walk through memory lane with Coke Christmas moments throughout the years - cue the polar bears and 18 wheeler!

Experience:
🎅Market Square (definitely hit up the t-shirts - reading each one is half the fun)
🎅 Snow Tubing (always our favorite)Ice Skating (truth: we don’t skate, but it’s perfect people watching)
🎅 Interactive Light up Dance Floor
🎅 @cinemark Theatre with holiday movies
🎅 Coca-Cola Lounge - 21+ Cocktail experience (looked great to go with the girls)
🎅 Santa Landing

And of course, the Eatery! Eyes (and mouths) got big here with featured food from State Fair of Tex winners like The Drowning Tacos (SO GOOD we then ordered the Birria Tacos, too all cooked onsite and with all the sauce!)

It’s the real thing!

🗓️ Now through Dec. 31 (NYE) at 6 pm

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without @prairielights- with a packed car with blankets, Santa hats, hot cocoa and coffee, and blasting holiday music while we sing them even louder.

A stunning two-mile drive through light park complete with a midway stop - The Holiday Village with carnival rides, amazing bites (corndogs, funnel cakes and more, oh my!) And this year we were surprised with a new light tunnel, reimagined walk-through forest and new displays, great photo opps, gifts, visit with Santa, a lighted strollable forest.  It’s perfectly timed for food, fun and a little time on foot!

PRO TIP: Go early, get tickets in advance and spring for the fast pass on the weekends and prime holiday times. And enjoy it and don’t try to rush it - enjoy it! That includes entry and the experience (so bathroom before you go, but thankfully there’s one at The Holiday Village and you get the corn dog.)

Named after Bangkok’s legendary road of entertainment of all kinds (Sukhumvit Soi 11), it seems fitting this newly imagined destination would find its home in Arlington’s Entertainment District. Anchoring the NEW @loewsarlington, @soycowboytx (also from @bbbutchers / @berghospitality) recently swung open the curtain this summer with an opening that made heads turn at every corner of this 12,000 sq. ft. of sexy space - with 3 unique bars, patio, viewable kitchen and dining room.

To call it a “Pan Asian restaurant” doesn’t do it justice with its rich menu of fresh sushi, dim sum, caviar, truffle, lobster, waygu (all things you don’t find in the home of the margarita machine and ballpark nachos.) And if you’re looking for entertainment, just take a peek into the expansive kitchen and watch your rolls or omakase be made. The cocktail menu is just as extravagant with everything from mezcal to Japanese whisky, you’re eyes will be just as happy as your lips upon your first sip.

While we experienced live music, fashion show and more as part of the opening, the cool smoke installation and the people-watching is definitely just part of the menu at Soy Cowboy you’ll have to explore.

Food Nerd Note: SoyCowboy is on the upcoming @dfwrestaurantweek menu for just $39, so it’s a steal to take your own trip on a budget. (Make your reservation.)
