Say Yes to the Dress

October 26, 2020 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

It’s the Cinderella moment we all dream of: the moment you put on the perfect dress that everything else is perfect, too and when you Say Yes to the Dress.

Thanks to Mama Luma for a Say Yes to the Dress moment for her.

For some girls it’s the prom. Some girls it’s the wedding. But for many Hispanic girls it’s the quinceanera.

SayYestotheDress

Growing up I wasn’t really immersed in any Hispanic cultural holidays and experiences, so I never celebrated this special day growing up. But I remember the first time I was invited to one, I realized this wasn’t just a party, this was truly a mark of a female’s womanhood. And while she might have a date, that this big event (sometimes more than a traditional wedding) was so momental because it was all about her and that statement was exemplified with her prolific dress.

Recently my daughter and I planned a morning at Dallas Arboretum to spend girl time walking the gardens and seeing the flowers in full fall bloom. Considered one of the best gardens in the world, the legendary Dallas Arboretum is a 66-acre dream garden dream nestled up to White Rock Lake and hosts hundreds of events annually. To say the least, it’s beyond stunning and plays backdrop to so many picturesque moments in the region.

But on this special day it wasn’t even  as we stepped through the gates we were met with several beautiful girls who all were adorning quinceanera dresses. Taylor Tot couldn’t have been more over the moon. Later I found out the Arboretum was hosting a social distanced fashion show to allow young ladies who didn’t get to have their big day to still show off the “big dress.” And were they impressive. Vivid colors, sparkle everything, flowing trains, and ruffles galore.

So taken by the moment, Taylor and spent time studying what makes each dress so special. And of course observing each of them taking their own photos (most of them had professional photographers also in tow), we took time to for our own “photo shoot.” Taylor had gotten a beautiful dress from Mama Luma and had been holding on to the perfect moment to wear it. She had hoped for her birthday party or some upcoming party, but many of those moments didn’t end up happening in 2020. So we made a day for the dress and since dress was detailed with flowers it was an obvious choice to wear to the garden to properly “show off.”

Mama Luma is out of Santa Barbara and isn’t just your everyday dress company. The designer style is made for celebrating a young girl’s big moment – from birthdays, holidays and those other big picture moments. The thoughtful accessories that are designed as part of each look like jackets, hair bands and bows, and now even matching masks. All hand sewn with such attention to detail and the highest quality of fabric, a Mama Luma dress is all style and grace. I could tell from the moment I slid up the zipper, my little girl felt as special as she always should, when her little lips curled up and she tried to hide her excitement.

Every girl she have that moment – when everything feels perfect, on the inside and the out.

If I can just figure out how to make that happen for her everyday. But I hope it not just a gorgeous dress, but when she looks in the mirror…she feels good looking back at herself.

Say Yes to the Dress

Say Yes to the Dress

I’ll admit I don’t know if I’ve had that moment either. When I was married, we chose to go casual and being that we didn’t have much money, I didn’t see the point of a big dress, especially one that made people look at me. I bought my dress online from J. Crew off clearance (white summer dresses in the winter are cheap.) While I loved that special day and wouldn’t take it back, I regret not having a “dress moment,” when I could look at myself and say “perfect.” And more than anything I’ll miss the moment pulling the dress out to share my moment with her.

If there’s anything I’ve learned lately is never settle with just ordinary. Never settle with waiting for the right moment. And when it comes down to it, always get the dress.

About Mama Luma: Mama Luma was started by co-founders and former college roommates Kevin and Ata. Ata wanted to bring his mother’s designs to life in California and believed that by blending the natural beauty of Santa Barbara with the elegance of European tradition and Mediterranean prints, he could inspire a new wave of chic fashion into the younger generations on the West Coast. With the help of his resources in Istanbul, Turkey, he and Kevin diligently worked to bring these hand-sewn, high fashion masterpieces to the world.

Kellie Rasberry and Daughter Ripe to Help Us Find Affordable Style

October 22, 2019 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Have problems finding style mom and daughter can agree on? Kellie Rasberry and daughter ripe to help us find affordable style.

I knew the minute that my daughter came into this world that one day we would fight about clothes – just the same that my mom and I did when I was growing up.

It just wasn’t ready when it started at 3. Yes, 3. She wanted things that were pink and sparkled. I wanted things that were lady-like and more demure. While our fights about clothes are more along the lines of “you can’t wear your furry boots when it’s 100 degrees outside” at this point, I know we’re not long from the moment that “what is and what’s not appropriate” is soon in our midst.

And like many mamas and daughters – this same issue is the same impetus for what prompted mama Kellie Rasberry, along with her daughter, to create Emma Kellie & Me. Known for being the voice that wakes up and carries thousands of listeners in Dallas and in syndication across the U.S. on the long-standing Kidd Kraddick Show, the duo, decided it was time to take matters into their own hands by launching the clothing and accessories line “catered to women and women-in-training.” The line is focused on items that are on trend yet versatile and that will make mom and daughter both happy to wear.

I know we’re not long from the moment that “what is and what’s not appropriate” is soon in our midst.

Releasing only a few pieces at a time allows both of them to learn more about their customers’ wants and needs when it comes to what items are successful. And while the ladies are working to ensure the pieces, like a well-fitting pairing of jeans, a jacket and a clutch are what’s hot right now, they also want them to be lasting pieces in a wardrobe. Thankfully at most everything below the $100 price point, my pocket book and my closet can both stay full.

Take a look at a few of my favorites from the launch or take a look at the line yourself on the website now launched.

Creating Your Own Modern Mom Style

October 25, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo 1 Comment

Seem like mom + fashion don’t go together? With just a few staples, you can create your own modern mom style.

Congrats to Talbots for celebrating 70 years of style and this sponsored post.

Style isn’t a word I’d ever used to describe me.

Unless you’re talking about the absence of it.

Talbots

…And style blogger? I agree I’m a blogger and that I’m always in search of style, but style and blogger don’t belong in the same sentence with me. I even if I tried, I just can’t pull off that “gazing into nothingness” look that most fashion bloggers ace like a champ all over Instagram and make us all swoon to get it now. (I follow all of them so I know it works.)

But it’s not me. (See I’m even laughing at me.)

Talbots

I admit used to try. Like really I did. I even was named “Most Sophisticated” in high school for my daily use of scarves and the endless black wardrobe.  (Yes, there is a picture somewhere.)

Then I had kids.

It’s not that I didn’t want to look good but let’s face it, there’s a magical moment once you have children, and continuously have to wipe up endless spit up, change blowout dirty diapers, and deal with whatever crap that gets thrown at you (literally), many women choose comfort versus style.

And yoga pants? They are the comfortable version of Spanx (Spanx light if you will) that you don’t mind pulling on or better yet a “thigh lift” that makes you feel a little better about letting go (as long as you look more like Sporty Spice than Scary Spice.) Throw in a ballcap and I’m set. (Just ask most of Arlington…that’s my wardrobe.)

(Insert most all photos of me here for the yoga look.)

But you can’t always wear yoga pants everyday and to be honest, you shouldn’t. Sometimes there are occasions that you have to peel off the spandex and put your best self forward. If you’re like me, I don’t want to spend a fortune or trendy. My “style” is one of classic + comfort with a little bit of fun. Basically, for me, I need to be able to head to a meeting and then pick up my kids and go into mom mode without feeling uncomfortable or out of place in any place.

Talbots

A tailored jacket, a classic black dress, a crisp white shirt, a beautiful scarf, a statement necklace, a great handbag…these are the staple items that you need to make the most of your closet and to create your style. Talbots, which has made its name known for its classic, sophisticated style, has developed a signature wardrobe capsule to design your own modern mom style. The line is part of its exclusive anniversary collection celebrating women through the ages for their own iconic style.

Talbots

For the record, I hate pink. It’s never been a color that I feel comfortable in. At my age I’ve learned to be ok that my closet, which is at least 75% black, is ok. To me black always is in style and I feel like I look good in it when I wear it. But there is something to having one item in your wardrobe that says wow. This jacket definitely makes an impact, draws the eye in, and gets your attention. I think you can agree this bright pink one does that exactly.

Talbots

The only thing that you need to add is one pair of basic black heels and blue jeans and you’re all set – all year long. Now mix it up your way to make a look that’s you!

Talbots

Style doesn’t have to be complicated or one that requires you tuning into Instagram daily to figure it out or have to work to get it right. When you know you have the right ingredients to start, your finished dish is pretty easy to get right.

Five Ways To Take Five This Fall

September 12, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo 19 Comments

Fall may mean new beginnings…but it also means busy season is in high gear! Schedule some time to take give this fall just for you.

Thanks to prAna for making us all comfortable in our skin with this sponsored post.

What’s not to love about the fall. In Texas it’s the short time span between mid-September to mid-October that the temperature is a lot like The Three Bears…Not too cold, not too hot, it’s just right. For me it reminds me of high school football, Frito Pies, baked apple pies baking in the oven, pumpkin everything, and of course, my birthday (I mean it’s in my name?)

prAna

Unfortunately as a parent it also means that school starts, PTA, practices, quickly following with decorations, holidays and much more. While in theory the fall should be this brief moment to just enjoy Mother Nature’s gift, it’s actually more like the calm before the storm. Heck, I’m already tired just thinking about it.

I wish there was one fall that I could just be a spectator and take it all in…especially before it’s over in a blink of an eye. But let’s be honest, if you want that somewhat perfect idea of the holidays to happen, you have to make it happen. Or even better, maybe we all need to change the idea of what we think the perfect holiday looks like (Pinterest is not a good example.)

“Smell your rose, blow out your candle…”

So this year I’m making a point before I get caught up in the mess of the last months to just take a few moments JUST FOR ME to appreciate the little things that make me happy. Five minutes may not seem like much, but overall it will keep your nerves at bay before you blow on Christmas Day.

Curl up with a good book.

Okay…when’s the last time you read a book (truth – I can’t even remember but I do love my Audible.) However, I love reading magazines – from start to finish – it’s like a therapeutic getaway. But whatever it looks like, don’t keep building up the pile. Find something you’ve been meaning to learn, love and get lost in and do it. Even if it’s just 5 minutes a day.

prAna

Drink the coffee (even the PSL.)

Coffee, tea, whatever…I’ve become the worst about making a cup and then getting so busy that when I get back to the cup, it’s cold. There’s nothing more disappointing. So don’t just get the cup of joe and run, savor it, smell it, taste it, experience it. It’s not really the coffee we’re going for here – it’s just taking in what’s in front of you without the distractions. Besides one pumpkin spice latte won’t hurt you.

prAna

Take a walk.

The beautiful burgundy and mustard colored leaves crackling under your feet, the aroma of earth, spice and crisp area on your shoulders…even a five minute walk will make a difference to your disposition (plus it’ll help burn the calories from your #PSL.)

prAna

Pull out the “comfty clothes.”

Everybody should have a few pieces in their closet or drawer that make them feel like you’re wrapped up in a blanket. No matter how crappy your day has been, it makes you feel good to wear them. And most of all, that you can move in them and not feel tired or restricted. My new favorite loves are these pieces from prAna – my soft merino wool sweater and deco crop leggings. Just putting them all makes my day better and that I can do anything. AND I can feel good getting all my stuff done and still feel look I’m not wearing sweats.

prAna

Get 15% off your prAna order with the code: MS15AR.

Just breathe.

I’ve found myself doing a lot of this lately. When things really hit the fan, I just have to take a few breaths to start over, reassess, and get on with it. Looking at research stress doesn’t know boundaries, it comes no matter if it’s work, home, kids, whatever. And when you’re stressed, your cortisol gets into gear and you can actually gain weight. So with all that in mind if you feel the anxiety kick in, kick back with a few deep inhales. My daughter told me her teacher says “Smell your rose, blow out your candle” and you’ll feel better. It works. Try it. And it takes less than five minutes to get back in the game.

How do you keep it together when it seems like everything is on overload?

3 Summer Styles in Seconds

July 12, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo 13 Comments

Summer fun got you in overdrive? Look cool while it’s hot with these 3 Summer Styles in Seconds.

Thanks to Sephora inside JCPenney for this sizzling summer style collaboration.

Is it just me or does the summer break not seem like a break at all, but actually one long sweaty marathon divided up into several 5Ks where you always feel like you’re in a sprint from one place to another?

Yep, they actually should call it the summer bustle and hustle as we parents try to fit in vacation, work, summer camp, pool time, playdates, a few holidays and hopefully an opportunity to enjoy a little fun in the sun.

Summer-Style

Throw in 90-100 degree temperatures with that non-stop schedule, there’s no time to look good and keep it, all day long.

With a little help and just a few seconds, you can create some hot hairstyles that will make you look so cool (and keep you cool) all day long. Plus you can also give your tresses the care they need from heat from heat, chlorine, and product damage.

Summer-Style

Drybar is easily one of my favorite multitasking secrets when you need an incredible look that lasts when your to-dos look more like Santa’s Christmas toy list. But what’s even better is that the blowdry bar has created one of the best product lines that keeps hair looking great anytime. For me the DryBar Detox Dry Conditioner helps to tame my summer mane, making my hair silky, shiny, and more healthy. Best of all, you don’t even have to head to Drybar to get it. Just head to JCPenney and you’ll find Sephora inside JCPenney with all your favorite hair, makeup and beauty needs.

Summer-Style

Now just add a bandana, rubberband or even a little coconut oil, and you’re ready to take on the day – or at least look hot when you’re trying to stay cool.

3 Summer Styles in Seconds

Summer-Style

1. Sleek Pony

You can never go wrong with a slick back pony tail. Whether you’re going for something casual or fancy, this is the do for you. Plus it’s easy enough that you don’t really need any instruction or even a mirror at that.

  • After blasting your strands midlength to the ends with the Drybar Dry Conditioner, add a little volume by teasing at the crown.
  • Then secure the hair with an elastic ponytail holder.
  • Section off a small portion of hair from underneath the ponytail, wrap around the elastic band and tuck the ends with bobby pins.
  • Optionally, you can use a short scarf like this one, to tie around the pony to add a little color to your look.

Summer-Style

2.  Banded Bun

Consider this your princess do (all while keeping your crown tucked and off your neck.) Spray a little Drybar Dry Conditioner to smooth the strands.

  • Tie a bandana like one of these (it comes in a two-pack) at the nape of the neck (keeping it at the top of the hair.)
  • Next begin tucking the ends up around the bandana.
  • Last use a few bobby pins to tuck in the ends and secure.

Summer-Style

3. Wet Look

Did you just get out of the pool and have to run to the next activity? Don’t try to wash and dry, just go for the wet look. If Kim K. can do it, you can too!

  • After a few squirts of Drybar Dry Conditioner, flat iron the strands.
  • Then volumize the roots of the front half of the hair with a comb by grabbing a section of hair and teasing the roots from behind the section.
  • To complete the “wet look,” add a tablespoon of coconut oil to the palms and add to the top and sides of the hair.

To finish your summer look for where ever you need to go, add a fitted white jacket over a bright tank and short shorts paired with cork espadrilles and you’re out the door!

The One Item Every Wardrobe Needs

April 7, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo 1 Comment

If you could only one thing to wear every day what would it be? Change your look without much change with this classic staple.

Thanks to JCPenney for this helpful hack for mamachallenge readers.

If you could only one thing to wear every day what would it be?

A recent article shared that many successful people wear the same thing every day.  I for one LOVE the idea of a little change from time to time, but I’m rather happy in sporting a crisp white shirt every day. There’s something about it – that says casual, sophisticated, smart, modern and classic all at the same thing. So if there’s one thing you invest in (or probably already have in your closet) is the white shirt.

And with just a few other pieces you can have a different look every day – still making you look totally on trend while making your life simpler, giving you more time for the more important things in life.

What’s your favorite one item in your closet?

Go for O, The Oprah Magazine Collection for Talbots

February 23, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo 1 Comment

If Oprah says she loves it you know you will too. Talbots + Oprah team up again for Dress for Success, a must-have collection that helps other women at the same time. #multitask

Thanks to Talbots for partnering with mamachallenge to share this amazing effort.

We all have seen the Oprah effect. She loves it, we love it.

Oprah-Talbots

But when Oprah loves it so much she champions a cause, get ready for something AMAZING.

So when Talbots asks me to be a part of the Dress for Success launch for 2017, I *died.* (Channeling my best Rachel Zoe.)

First, because it’s Oprah.

Second because it’s Talbots.

Oprah-Talbots

Third because it’s an effort that last year helped to raising more than $1 million for Dress for Success to help more than 20,000 women in need to feel and look their best under less than best circumstances!

However, it was the fourth that actually almost had me in a hole…and in the ground.

Why? I mean I’m joining the ranks of other women like Sara Haines (Journalist & Co-host of The View), Jill Martin (Today Contributor), Denée Benton (Broadway Actor), and Sas Goldberg (Writer, Producer, Actor) sharing our favorites from the collection (you can see theirs in the March issue of O, The Oprah Magazine.)

But it’s because I was going to have to model one of my favorite parts of the collection.

Oprah-Talbots

If you haven’t noticed, I don’t normally do fashion blogging. I sincerely love clothes and fortunately, I have many fashion blogger friends in Big D that do it so well. So I enjoy their blogs, shop their looks and they leave the #mamachallenge stuff to me. (You know, dirty diapers, dishes, and macaroni & cheese.)

They put on a dress/shirt/handback/heels/whatever, gaze into the wild blue yonder with flowers in hand and someone takes a photo that makes you want to run rabid to click it, share it with your BFF, and buy it before you can say “Gail!”

Oprah-Talbots

But for me, not so much. I look into anything and it just looks like a hot mess (see I’m even laughing at me taking this photo.) But for a cause this wonderful and puts me one step closer to the seventy-degrees-of-Oprah, I’ll do it.

So here it went.

“Just remember, it’s all about the good you’re doing and how good you’re gonna look in it, right?

With colors like black (my favorite) and pink and staples like the cardigan set I’m sporting or any of the other pieces, you’re going to love it. And thinking what you’re doing for Dress for Success, the non-profit international organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life, you’re gonna love it that much more.

Oprah-Talbots-6

In addition to shopping the collection, you can also give back in two other ways – by donating gently worn work attire from March 2 – March 5 at your local Talbots or by making a monetary donation in store or online at www.talbots.com/dressforsuccess.

JCPenney Says MOM is #SoWorthIt For Mother’s Day

May 4, 2016 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Ever used Pinterest for an idea and then when you clicked on the how-to link, wished there was someone to help? MamaChallenge recently partnered with JCPenney to bring their Pinterest boards to life with live demonstrations just in time for Mother’s Day as part of their #SoWorthIt campaign!

I’ve always wanted to be Oprah.

Who doesn’t, right?

#SoWorthit

Last weekend I had the chance to “play Oprah” as the emcee of JCPenny’s #SoWorthit Mother’s Day live demonstration event at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco. As part of a nationwide, 10 location campaign, bloggers like me, Dallas Single Mom and several others, played the part of hostess with the mostest, April 23, 24, 30 and May 1 for some very Pinteresting fun!

JCPAdAge

(Photo of display in Ad Age.)

After two days on stage, I has the opportunity to gift all the merchandise (check out the Pinboard display below) to those who stopped by the stage to enjoy our presentation, which included a deserving mom that we pulled from the audience to get a makeover. Team members from the Sephora Inside JCPenney, applied a smoky eye and beautiful red lip look while giving tips to the audience how they could do it at home or come get a 15 mini-makeover from the store anytime for free.

I literally said the words, “You get a car…and you get a car…and you get a car,” while I was on stage.

Of course, this was just in the “heat of the moment” and reminded the audience while it wasn’t a car, we were giving away great items perfect for Mother’s Day including shoes, necklaces, and a Chi flatiron. That flatiron actually prompted many audience members to “show what they were working with” with an impromptu dance off.

I only wish I had gotten that picture!

However, I did snap a few of the dresses I found at JCPenney and wore on stage. The first one here is from R&K Sleeveless Chiffon Maxi Dress. I normally wouldn’t wear something bright and floral, but I’m so glad I decided to go for it. I felt great all day long and it was definitely a show stopper. Don’t you think? (and under $50.)

Today’s the day! Come join me at @stonebriarcentre for a Pinteresting event designed to give you great ideas, great how-to’s and great giveaways from @jcpenney! See you today until 6 pm! #soworthit #jcpenney #ad #pinterest #mothersday #friscotx #dallas #dallasblogger #dfwstyle #dallasstyle #mamachallenge

The next day was one of those dresses that is perfect for any occasion with this Tiana B. Sleeveless Colorblock Fit and Flare. With just a hint of pink, it was a homerun that I’m sure I’ll be wearing often – especially since it was $39.99 without coupons or special sale!

SephoraInsideJCPenney#SoWorthIt

While I was on stage sharing tips with the audience, I was learning along with them! For instance, I had never tried a lip stain (this one is Sephora’s own cream lip stain), but after 8 hours, two iced coffees, and some pretzel bites, it really stayed on. My lips were moist too, so this is a must-have if you have problems keeping your lip color on for more than an hour!

JCPenney #SoWorthit

During the weekend we also gave away free samples, $10 off when you sign up for JCPenney Rewards, and even more coupons. It was lots of fun to play girlfriend all weekend giving out advice and learning from each other! However, JCPenney is making it easy to continue the inspiration and ideas on their Pinterest at pinterest.com/JCPenney anytime!

Thank you to JCPenney for such a fun experience and for my Mother’s Day gift to reward other moms for all the work they do all the time – because we’re all #SoWorthIt.

10 Reasons Why Children’s Place Needs to Add My Size

November 30, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo 25 Comments

Shopping for your kids is way more fun than myself – especially my little girl. Many times she gets compliments for her outfits and then I get the look at me that says “but what happened to her mom?” Let’s be honest, when it’s made for a 4 year-old it’s gonna be cute…but The Children’s Place newest line has been asking, “hey do you have that in my size?”

1. Girl’s Fur Cuff Addie Boots:

Because everyone needs some boots with the fur…unless you live in FloRida (see what I did there?)

2047611_DJ-dkbrn-36

2. Sleeveless Belted Brocade Flare Dress

For those days when I want to look bit more put together, but really I’m screaming on the inside and want to go to sleep….but’s only 8 a.m.  ChildrensPlace3. Sequin Kayla Flats

Flats make make it easier to be Superwoman. Sequin flats make me feel fabulous while I do it.

2048225_526-softgld-36

4. Quilted Heart Purse:

Because it’s never too old or young for Chanel(esque.)

2051810_01-blk-36

5. Short Sleeve Metallic Dot Jacquard Dress:

Jackie O would approve and then ask for a matching gloves.

2053662_1068

6. Chunky Glitter Square Purse:

Some purchases aren’t practical. They’re just fun.

2051811_71-gold-36 7. Long Sleeve Flannel Button Down:

Yes, this is a little boys shirt, but anything in the “boyfriend” style (jeans, blazers, watch, etc.) makes me happy and hides my bloat.

2052939_1027-clsicred-26

8. Button Front CPO Jacket:

Not exactly a “boyfriend” style I would wear, but I’m pretty sure my husband could rock this.

2052696_IV

9.  Sparkle Bow Ballet Flat:

What’s wrong with buying two pairs of sparkly shoes? Don’t judge me.

2054204_71-gold-17

10. Faux Fur Vest:

Fur and pink? Of course, we all need this in our closet.

2052903_Y0-shell-22

But until Children’s Place decides to change their name to “Mama and Me’s Place,” we’re stuck playing dress up with the kiddos or I need to think about buying two or three of them and glue ’em together.

Fall Trend Alert: Get WORN, Give Help

October 1, 2015 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

As much as I love a good pair of yoga pants, I realize that the real world sometimes require real clothes. Thankfully the cooler seasons means my favorite part of fall fashion – LAYERS – sweaters, cardigans and wraps to keep you warm and fabulously chic.

Retail stores started teasing us with autumn hues back in summer, but what if I told you there’s a place where you can buy trendy clothes and help needy families get a little bit more cash?

WORN is a fashion-driven social enterprise of Catholic Charities of Fort Worth that provides refugee women living in the U.S. an opportunity to utilize the traditional skill of knitting to increase their families’ household income, thus empowering them to rise above poverty.

And these talented women have been busy creating the new fall line at WORN that is full of gorgeous accessories, like this Fox Trot Circle Scarf that will instantly make you look like a million bucks, even if you’ve only had three hours of sleep.

Worn (137 of 232)

This scarf is versatile and will make you look effortlessly chic. You can add it to a pair of skinnies, long-sleeve tee and riding boots for a GNO outfit or accessorize a jewel-tone skirt for a touch of glam during a date night or a Holiday party later this year.

Each product, like the scarf, is hand-knit by refugee women out of their home, overcoming significant barriers such as language, transportation and child care. brand provides supplemental income to refugees who hand-knit the products – 100% of the net profits are used for women’s wages and CCFW programs designed to end poverty in the community.

Women like M.D.H. who born in a jungle between Burma and Thailand, but fled to a Thai refugee camp after her parent’s village was burned by the army. She lived in the camp for 20 years before they were given the opportunity to come to the United States in 2008. And there’s M.G. who lived in a refugee camp for 21 years. She resettled in Fort Worth with her husband and his parents in February 2014. They are expecting their first child and WORN will provide extra income for baby items and allow me to stay home with the baby.

These women have fled from war-torn countries where they faced persecution and possibly death to find hope, freedom and a future in the United States. Each time I wear the Fox Trot Scarf, I may look sizzlin’, but my heart will be even more warm knowing that this small accessory has brought happiness and prosperity to these families.

Fancy Schmancy. This month’s @torchystacos Taco Fancy Schmancy.

This month’s @torchystacos Taco of the Month is this beut: she’s full of eggs, smoked salmon, pickled onions, capers, chopped dill, and the herb cream cheese. And yes she’s fancy but oh so good and worth the splurge.

Paired with a side of queso and change out the chips for chicharrones with that white queso (and maybe a Paloma), and you’re golden.

Today on @wfaagmt I shared how to make the most of those leftovers and old vegetables and fruits! The kitchen smells so good with an apple tarte tartin, truffles, potato chips, broth, banana bread, and this cilantro green sauce! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Taken from @beardfoundation:

INGREDIENTS

1⁄4 cup red wine vinegar or freshly squeezed lemon juice
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1⁄2 cup fresh cilantro stems (from 1 bunch of cilantro)
1⁄2 cup olive oil or neutral oil, such as organic canola or grapeseed
1⁄2 tsp ground cumin

DIRECTIONS

In a blender or the mixing cup of a small food processor or immersion blender, combine the vinegar and a pinch of salt and pepper. Swirl a few times to dissolve the salt. Add the stems, olive oil, and cumin — puree. Adjust the seasoning to taste.

Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

❄️ I’m dreaming of a White Christmas... We ❄️ I’m dreaming of a White Christmas...

We normally head to the mountains at Christmas time, but this year we’re just happy to celebrate Christmas healthy and together with lots of wonderful trips around home including to the @gaylordtexan. So we broke from our matching plaid instead with this mom/daughter snowflake set from @shinestythreads. Most their stuff is exactly what you need to dominate the Christmas sweater game, our little bit of cheesy (cue “Let it Go...”) but came out too sweet not to share. (When they’re this age, you take it when you get it!)

Shinesty is the resource for all the holidays apparel and even does free returns! Save their page for when you need to be the talk of the party (online and in person.)

I love celebrating our holiday traditions, but this year we made a new one! I’ve always wanted to see Christmas lights by carriage ride and this year we made it happen by surprising the girls!

We spent the night looking at beautiful houses, drinking hot chocolate under the blankets and hearing some of the best commentary from the girls!

🐴 There are several different carriage ride companies (we used Whitehaven Carriages) that drive through Deerfield and Highland Park with multiple types of carriages (there’s even a Cinderella) for varying prices starting around $175+.

🐴While rides reserve quickly, you might be able to find some after the holidays! If not, put this in the calendar for next year because it’s a must do!

(I’ve shared some of it on Instastories!)

Are you making a different kind of O Face because Are you making a different kind of O Face because your not sure if that box is gonna make it? O-NO! 😱

Deadlines start today fast and being in those long lines might be the worst part of Christmas. However, I shared some tips on @wfaagmt on how you can avoid feeling like a Grinch when it comes to shipping. 🙌🏻

Here are some tips you might not know before you get in line:

🎁 The big three all have pick up at your house, by going online and scheduling for pick up @ups, @usps.official and @fedex.

Did you know that several stores actually have shipping inside?
🎁Some Ace Hardware stores @acehardware and local Eliott’s Hardware
🎁 @Staples - they have all the supplies for you to box it up (and I have a coupon in my Instastories!)
🎁 CVS ships UPS
🎁 Heading to those third party parcel stores can definitely save you some time.

Ship to Store is a huge way to get the item delivered quicker to you or to have sent.
🎁 Get your @amazon sent to an Amazon Locker or @wholefoods for shipping and pick up!
🎁 @target - drive through pick up with the App
🎁 @Walmart - just launched a new service called Walmart+ which is like Amazon Prime where you can get it. (Try it free now!)

Last-minute shipping?
🎁 While you might not want to pay for those last-minute shipping services, if you use @rakuten you can save money on your purchase so then it still can be affordable for your budget. (I have already racked up a $600 cash back check just for using Rakuten - head to my profile to get a link to get $20 back when you use it! (It’s FREE!)
