No Skill Baking: Skillet Desserts

February 28, 2018 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

In the mood for something sweet, but don’t have ingredients or even a recipe? Then pull out the skillet for the easiest and best way to bake with these Skillet Desserts.

“Honey, do we have anything sweet to eat?”

Famous last words of my husband when we’ve run out of fruit or his reserve Homemade vanilla BB in the freezer.

It’s also the same feeling I get when someone calls on their way to the house and I have nothing to serve.

Skillet

It’s not like I’m looking for Food Network level here, I’m just trying to bust out something sweet without just ripping up a bag of M&Ms to pass around.

So that’s where skillet desserts come into the picture.

You could make it with a plan like Apple Fritter Skillet (see below) to emptying out the pantry and putting ANYTHING like leftover Valentine’s Day candy to make a Kitchen Sink Skillet (you don’t even need a recipe for this one.)

However the one requirement you do need to create skillet desserts is the SKILLET. (Keyword here.)

So first if you don’t have one, then maybe you should stop here. You could go order one or better yet, go talk to grandma to relinquish hers. Those are the best ones, anyways. Skillets aren’t just because they’re multi-purpose for cooking everything from a steak to desserts like these, but that they get better with time.

Skillet-Dessert

Just one thing before you put together your skillet dessert, you’ll need to season it make sure there’s no taste of chicken or steak in there from the time before. Just throw in a little butter, let it melt and stick it in the oven for a little while during the pre-heat. Then go for it.

First off, you don’t really need a recipe for this.

No, really, you don’t.

Open a box of brownie mix and follow the instructions on the box to make the dough.

Then open a box of chocolate chip cookie dough from the box. Read the instructions to make the dough.

Put the brownie mix in the skillet.

Then put the cookie dough in the skillet. I’d leave a little bit of brownie around the sides.

Now, if you really want to mix it up, then start adding stuff. Like anything.

  • Chocolate chips
  • Oreo bits
  • Leftover candy

You get my drift. This is the part where I call it “Kitchen Sink Skillet Dessert.” Or if you prefer, you can call it something creative…but kitchen sink describes it well.

Skillet-Dessert

Then bake it as instructed, approximately 350-375 degrees for about 30-45 minutes. Done. Serve it with some vanilla ice cream (that is if you have any of that left.)

Skillet-Dessert

Yep, that’s easy, right?

Well then, if you liked that, then you’ll love the Apple Fritter/Apple Cinnamon Skillet we’re sharing soon!

But until then, let’s see how much skill it takes to make it go from this…

Skillet-Dessert

to this ooey-gooey, deliciousness.

24 Hours: Girlfriend Getaway in Granbury Texas

February 22, 2018 By Autumn Rose Reo 2 Comments

Vacation. Whether it’s just a quick weekend or around a work trip, make a vacation happen when you can, how you can, where you can.  Here is our guide to make the best of it when all you have is 24 hours. Here’s our Girlfriend Getaway in Granbury Texas#24HourVacay.

Thank you to Visit Granbury and many of its fantastic businesses for making this #24HourVacay possible.

I don’t get vacation often. And when I do, I normally need a vacation from the vacation. I mean let’s be honest family vacations may be memorable, but they aren’t easy. EVER. And sometimes I just need to relax and not do much to anything at all. PERIOD.

Granbury Texas Girlfriends

So when a girlfriend and I realized we were at the point that we needed to stop and reset before somebody was hurt (it was gonna be one of the kids, the hubs, the dog or some stranger who just got in the way), we knew it was time to escape. Unfortunately life obligations constrained us to just about 24 hours that we could “get away.” But when you are in need, you’ll take it.

Thankfully down the Chisholm Trail less than an hour away is Granbury, Texas.

And that’s the kind of place to spend a #24HourVacay…

Granbury

I am not a newbie to Granbury. Last year the hubs and I spent a weekend there and it was what we needed for a little alone time. However, I scouted a lot of stuff while I was there that I wanted to do with just the girls. You know – shop, spa, wine, rest, eat, repeat. I was meeting up with my gal pal there so this road trip was a party of 1 (if you even want to call less than an hour a road trip.) With no real plan except to relax and unwind my tired ass. As soon as I rolled into town at 5 pm, I knew where I was going. It was just too perfect.

Granbury

D’Vine Wine

There’s a lot to see around town, but at this time of the year there were several vignettes. The square is lined with shops and eateries with lots of personality (and freaking great food.) But my first stop was local fave, D’Vine Wine. I bellied up to the bar and asked for a glass of one of their fruit-based wines. You can choose a tasting, but this day, I needed a full glass to kick things into gear. Plus I was in great company as one of the owners/wife poured my glass and shared how this once visiting couple to Granbury planned a stay and never went home (well, basically that’s how it went.) They loved it here so much, they packed up their West Texas home and moved to operate the tasting room.

Even though I was by myself, I enjoyed my time meeting new friends, enjoying new wine (always a favorite) and learning how the winery also had created a line in partnership with the nearby Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.  While it goes to benefit the center here in Granbury, the wine is purchased all over for other animal-related events. Just sitting on my stool, I learned the love story of how the winery came to be and that you can even make your own wine. Had I come back another day, I could join in karaoke or even schedule to make my own batch of wine, but with just a short time in Granbury, that would be for next time.

Granbury

Barking Rocks Winery

While I could’ve stayed much longer, it was time to head to Barking Rocks. The last time I was here I almost wondered if I was being sent down a dirt road to never return. But when I got there, I realized why this little “secret” was worth the drive. Besides the beauty that brought the owner Tobias here in 1977 from corporate America and never went back, on the first Friday of the month this place becomes a special community for people to come, bring out their own food to share with others, catch up and listen to live music.

Of course, I had to grab a small tasting – and at $7 why wouldn’t you? I’m a big fan of the Roussanne but on this special day, Sangria was being poured, so I had to get a glass too.

Granbury

While my pictures of “First Friday” didn’t turn out (it was dark), I was able to grab this beautiful shot of the moonlight on the sign. However, whenever you go, you’ll enjoy it. Everyone is friendly and you’ll definitely want to bring home on bottle (get two because I always end up gifting one and then I don’t have one myself!)

Granbury (29 of 29)

Hilton Garden Inn Granbury

There are so many places you can choose to stay in Granbury including hotels, motels and yes, even a “Holiday Inn.” (yes, that’s a song I’m singing.) There are also several bed and breakfasts like this one. However, if there is something happening in town like a big event or get together, rooms are scarce, so make sure to book a little in advance if you can help it. For us the Hilton Garden Inn did us exactly what we needed. Clean spacious rooms, a beautiful view, nice breakfast and even a happy hour all at a really great price. There’s even an indoor pool in case you want to stay indoors, but why would you when it looks like this.

Paradise Bistro & Coffee

After a long night’s rest, to make the most of our day in Granbury, we needed my favorite two Cs: Coffee + Champagne. So we headed to Paradise Bistro & Coffee for both. We could’ve ordered breakfast too (so many choices from sweets to sandwiches), but opted to fill up on mimosas and java and have brunch after our morning massages. (SURPRISE!)

Paradise Granbury

Blushes Salon

We came from some R & R so the massages were a must. After a little research I found Blushes Salon. A beautiful space right outside of town, we could’ve spent the day getting facials, manicures, and big hair like they did here once with The Ellen Show. But today with the clock running, we got right down to business so we could be charged up for more…well, doing nothing all around Granbury.

GranburyTexas

Revolver Brewing

I always tell everyone if you’re in Granbury on a Saturday, you need to make time for Revolver Brewing. I love coming here and just people watching while of course sipping on my Blood & Honey (which is a mainstay in my fridge.) This was the perfect spot for us to sit down, catch up on life, and just hang – this time with no children. Of course, there are lots of other folks there with theirs and that’s what I love about this place. It’s just open and works for everyone. Just make sure you go at the right time so you can score your tastes, glass and tour; it’s only open on Saturday (and don’t forget the tacos.)

Granbury

Shopping

Guess what goes best with beer (and bubbles?) That’s shopping! And while we weren’t there to buy anything specific, there were so many places to shop, talk and TASTE around the square. Red on the Square is a must with so many adorable clothing options, accessories, and an even events! Like most of Granbury, there are always events, especially on the weekend, so you can shop later and shop more and enjoy with Granbury has to offer. There are plenty of spots like these, from clothing, antiques, furniture, eats (a must-go is Christina’s Bistro) and great other stuff you didn’t know you needed but you’re gonna buy like that road trip sign I couldn’t help but buy.

Granbury

Granbury

Eighteen Ninety Grille & Lounge

After such a big day we were definitely a little tired, but I was too jazzed for our big dinner at 1890. Last time I was in town I had ran across this spot and fell in love with the menu. Too bad they were booked at the time, so I was prepared this time to have my RSVP and to come a little early. Downtown Granbury all lit up is beautiful and many of the spots like the Opera House & Granbury LIVE! keep the city rockin’ and rollin’ later into the evening. But tonight’s destination plan was for 1890.

Granbury

Granbury

And it was worth all the wait! We started off with the Texas Trilogy with Free range chicken, Texas quail wrapped in applewood smoked bacon with a sliver of jalapeno, & tenderloin. While that could’ve been dinner, we couldn’t just top at that. There was a buttery Chilean Seabass that called my name. And of course the best part was the table next to us…I couldn’t tell you their names, but we had all kinds of fun together especially during our “birthday cake surprise” – complete with fireworks. It was the perfect way to end the day and to celebrate our vacay!

Granbury

Granbury

Granbury

Farina’s Winery & Cafe

Before our little vacay came to an end, we made one last stop at Farina’s Winery & Cafe for brunch. And it was just the way to remember Granbury. Last visit we had dinner there, but brunch is a different experience as we were about to find out. There was no menu, but there was a mimosa bar that you could mix and match to suit your fancy. And there was a fantastic table of sweets, quiches, and much more that you could indulge in to your hearts delight. Too bad there wasn’t enough room to eat it all. At least not this time.

Whether you’re looking for a quick getaway with your spouse or your girlfriends, Granbury Texas is just the right spot for a #24HourVacay (and a little bit more.)

Your Must-Have Laundry Sidekick

February 18, 2018 By Autumn Rose Reo 13 Comments

Found that one white shirt at the bottom of the colors pile? With the LG TwinWash, life is good with this Must-Have Laundry Sidekick that does it all.

Sponsored by Best Buy.

I HATE LAUNDRY.

Like hate it BAD (almost as much as dishes.) I am the mom that often forgets to switch out the load from the wash to the dryer for a few days, then rewash it again (and sometimes one more time after I forgot AGAIN.)

But it is a necessary evil that unfortunately can’t be put on autopilot, at least not yet. But it’s come a LONG way.

I have been lucky that the same unit I’ve had for over a decade has done its duty. But with a move on the horizon, I was on the hunt for a new set and man I had no idea what all my washer and dryer could do. I mean until it folds itself and takes it to my closet, what else is left for a W/D to do?

LG TwinWash laundry_Family

For me it always seems that at 9 pm is when my kid reminds me there’s some special shirt he’s supposed to wear and that’s the one that’s not clean. Or I’ll get to the bottom of the white load to put in the wash and there’s one color shirt there had been left out of the bunch, just looking at me, mocking me that now I have to clean all by itself, or wait until next time I fill up the colors load to get that one freaking shirt washed.

Not only do these washers have mega capacity to tackle any size load, they are energy efficient for the best cleaning performance.

Now at Best Buy until 4/25, receive up to $500 off a LG laundry solution for your home.

With LG’s TwinWash system you don’t have to make a choice between small, medium or a large load. Whether it’s my sweaty pants after hot yoga or the dirty uniform on a Sunday night, you can use the LG SideKick pedestal washer to do a little mini load. You can even use it simultaneously while you do a bigger load up top on your LG Front load washer. Now that’s how this mama wants to multitask. #mamachallenge

LG TwinWash laundry_Family

There’s a reason they call it LG. Life is good with this TwinWash in your laundry room.

Celebrate in 8: Quick Game Day Ideas

February 3, 2018 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Want to celebrate the big game, but don’t have any time outs to put it together? Here are quick game day ideas you can do to celebrate that take less than 8 minutes to do!

Even if you aren’t a big football fan, there’s just something about getting together on Sunday night for the BIG GAME for food and fun together.  Even if you don’t have a team to root for and you don’t have much time to put anything together, make it worth celebrating with these Quick Game Day Ideas. If you have 8 minutes (and especially if you have kids), you can still pull off a touchdown.

Just remember, the name of the game is TEAM! So do it together. Put the kids to work and to help you as part of the fun. Not only is it smart, but the “set up” is sometimes more fun than the real deal.

1. Snack Stadium

Bust out the chips and dip and you’re done! There’s no shame in your game with this quick “snack stadium” that can make your dips and chips (and whatever else look like a winning presentation with no work. Order it here or you can pick up at your nearby Party City.

Game Day Snack Stadium

2. Chocolate Chip Dip Football

Nicknamed “crack dip” by my friends, this recipe is a girlfriend’s favorite go to and she finally gave me the recipe! I made it shaped like a football and now who’s winning? This is the easiest recipe in the world and again – the kids can make it!

Ingredients

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup butter, softened

3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups mini semisweet chocolate chips (1 for the recipe, 1 for decorating)

Graham crackers, Teddy Grahams, etc.

Directions

In a small bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until blended. Add the sugars and vanilla and beat until smooth. Stir in chocolate chips. Shape like a football. Cover in chocolate chips. Place in the fridge for 1 hour (optional) and serve with graham crackers.

3. Game Time Bingo

Don’t just put the kids in another room, make them part of the fun! This football bingo can bring them into the game (and for those of us that don’t know football this is really a great way to learn!) Print it off and use the GoGo squeeZ tops (putting those babies to use for your markers) and play throughout the game! Of course have a great little something for the MVP that wins!

Gameday Football Bingo

4. LEGO Goal Post

Did I make this? NOPE! But my son who doesn’t care too much about football LOVED being able to add to the fun by building his own details to the party. What’s fun about this LEGO Goal Post is that it also doubles as a fun one to fold up some paper footballs for a little game within the big game. But don’t just stop there! Think about the fun stuff your kids can do and just let them! That’s the real touchdown in this parenting game – make them feel like you’re a team. (Cheesy rant over.)

5. Football Favor Boxes

Want to make sure the kids don’t go crazy on snacks or perhaps you do have them in another room watching their favorite movie? Then put together these premade Football favor boxes using snacks from your pantry to ensure they get a balance of healthy snacks. Plus it’s the fun it in cute sack or box that kids and just using the snacks you already have! Gameday Football Favor

6. Commercial Showdown

You know the commercials are your favorite part! So make it the feature of the party with a true showdown. Use cardstock to make your “official judging cards” and use them throughout the game to see which one really makes the cut! You can these cute ones or use this field template to download to write in your own!

Football Ad Showdown

7. Two-Step Mini Corndogs

I love these because they are exactly two things you need to make these mini corndogs: cornbread mix and a package of cocktail sausages. (Can’t go wrong with cocktail weenies, right?) Put them together and bam – you’re done. Grab the supporting team (ketchup and mustard) and you’re an all-star. If you want to make these from scratch, then go talk to her. Personally, I’m all about the easy eight minutes (ok, these take time to bake but it took me only 2 minutes to put them together.)

8. Buffalo Chicken Dip

By far this dip recipe will ALWAYS get the team rooting for you. With just a few ingredients, you mix it together, bake it and it’s game time. Add veggies, bread, your fingers (WHATEVER) for this must-have Buffalo Chicken Dip.

Ingredients

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar mix is great)

2 cup cooked chopped chicken, (<<<<<Rotisserie chicken for the win)

1/2 cup Buffalo wing sauce (I like this one!)

3/4 cup sour cream

1/4 Bleu cheese crumbles

Instructions

Mix it all up (except reserve a little cheddar and bleu cheese for the top.) Bake it at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Done.

The Simple Diet for Foodies Who Don’t Like to Workout

January 23, 2018 By Autumn Rose Reo 1 Comment

Do you love food but don’t have time to cook? Hate to exercise? But need to drop some LBS? Then you’ll find your answer with this Simple Diet Plan for Foodies Who Don’t Like to Workout from Utopia.

Thanks to Utopia for helping me find a happy way to get healthy and this sponsored post.

Another year, another diet.

For most of that’s what January is. You say this is going to be “THE YEAR” and then come two weeks you’re crying about how you fell of the wagon as two-fist your Halo (remember that stuff is only good when you don’t eat it one seating.) Besides the fact that endless restriction doesn’t work at all for anyone (unless you like it like that), it’s about something you can enjoy and works for you. Yes, something that you can ENJOY.

Utopia Food and Fitness

This is why most those “other diets” just don’t work. Maybe in the short term, but unless you like to count, weight out your food, spend hours prepping and all that other crap you gotta do (you know like that Whole 30 stuff), it will never work.

But for the rest of us, the ones of us that just want to be our healthiest, but are at that point we just want someone to tell us what to do, there is Utopia.

Utopia Food and Fitness

Utopia Food and Fitness

Utopia Food & Fitness combines the two things you need: fitness and and food, all in one place.

Based on your body and your weight loss needs, the very educated staff formulates your nutritional needs and together with a James Beard-nominated Chef Mike Smith, creates your meal plan using fresh, seasonal ingredients and a balanced ratio of protein, fat, and carbohydrates. It’s real food—no pills, no powders, no fads. All you do is let them know what you don’t like (for me I have a no tuna rule) and you pick you it up twice a week. So you just have to cook it and eat it. AND drink water. LOTS OF WATER.

Utopia Food Fitness

Utopia Food and Fitness

Utopia Food Fitness

Utopia Food Fitness

And the food is THAT good. Like really I could eat the Chicken Ranch Casserole all the time. And the snacks made my life happy. From Salmon Mousse, Buffalo Chicken Strips, Steamed Dumplings <<<<< and those are the snacks!

Utopia Food Fitness

While the food takes up about 80% of what you need for weight loss for the other part, you still need to move it to lose it. At Utopia the ask is 20 minutes of exercise with their staff, twice a week. Yep, just twice a week with their top-of-the-line trainer on your time in a comfortable place. Think 20 minutes can’t make a difference? I can attest when you’re maxing out your weight capacity with slow, rhythmic movements – it can make a huge impact (and yes, your muscle will quiver in less than 20 minutes.)

Utopia Food Fitness

Utopia Food and Fitness

That’s it.

Keep wondering where the hitch is? I did too. But the point is that it’s that simple: healthy eating and exercise is what you need for change. However, the attentive service from the staff is really what makes a difference at Utopia. And of course, the gourmet food helps too. They’re devoted to giving you what you need – even if you don’t know what it is.

So if you’re wondering how those resolutions are going to turn from words on paper to something real to kick your weight loss into gear – there’s Utopia. With three locations in DFW: Plano, Dallas, and Southlake, you can find Utopia near you.

Santa for the Big Kids: Dynacraft Black Ice eDrifter

December 19, 2017 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Just because they don’t fit on Santa’s lap doesn’t mean they don’t want a good gift. Your tweens + teens will go wild for the Dynacraft Black Ice eDrifter available at Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Thank you to Dynacraft for this Christmas helper and this sponsored post.

I remember that first Christmas and the feeling of trying to get the right gifts for the kiddo under the tree…until I realized “oh yea, the kid doesn’t even know what’s happening.”

But come that second Christmas, Santa wasn’t just an event, it was EVERYTHING for like six months…and every year after. Especially that year when we got him his first ride-on: a Jeep that he rode all over the house and the backyard.
 eDrifter

However, there is a point when you take the kids to see Santa and their smile isn’t directed at the big guy in red, but a grimace that you even would make them take a pic with Santa or any other activity you dare ask them to do for Christmas.  It’s tweendom and I know it’s coming…oh it’s coming alright.

But at Christmas it doesn’t mean that they don’t want something that still will put a big fat smile on their face (just like when they were little) and give you the satisfaction that “you did it.”

So if you have a 13 year old (and up to 154 pounds) that’s ready to roll, then you’ll find that happy face with the Black Ice eDrifter available at Academy Sports + Outdoors.

It’s not like that ride-on you got ’em when they were little. The motorized drifting bike lets ’em go uphill and “drift” at 12.5 miles an hour. Powered by a 24-volt battery, making it easy to travel uphill or drift across flat terrain. If you’re like me, you might not know what drifting is…but it’s the cutting-edge wheel design that recreates the feel of drifting across black ice — no matter the time of year.

edriftet

Plus it looks really cool with the gray finish and makes mom and dad feel better with a sturdy frame.

eDrifter

Dynacraft Black Ice eDrifter features:

  • The electric driver wheel powers the eDrifter to drift a full 360 to 720 degrees on all flat surfaces, as well as climb hills
  • The twist grip accelerator works like a motorbike, and the vehicle consists of tubeless tires with PVC drifter sleeves
  • Unlike other trikes, adrenaline seekers can propel the Black Ice eDrifter to over 12 miles per hour for up to 45 minutes of continuous use
  • Strong, sturdy frame and an integrated front fender that blocks debris from the rider’s face

edrifter3

While you can’t get this online before Christmas, use the store locator to find out where you can get yours now (and for the moment at less than $200!)

Don’t miss the eDrifter featured in our 2017 Holiday Hot List for Good Morning Texas.

Trying to keep track of what everyone wants and needs gets to be overwhelming especially when you want to keep your gifting within your budget. And you get spread so thin trying to get it all done – and still see that smile on their face when they open it.

This season take the holiday challenge, #JCPchallenge, at JCPenney and beat your holiday budget. Get all you want for less than you think – from hot trending items and holiday must-haves to unexpected finds – all available in-store or online at great value.

JCPenney is helping to mark off your list no matter who you need to get something for, especially with its new Jacques Penné (JCPs upscale moniker). Opened in NYC for just two days, guests could experience JCPenney “with rose colored glasses” a beautifully curated holiday boutique decorated with a nod to JCPenney’s play on the penny with copper and penny decor. With Christmas trees and wreaths made of pennies, you can only believe it if you see it. It’s truly absolutely stunning! The pop-up was lined with specially selected upscale gifts designed in nine collections including picks from celebrity Nicole Richie.

Thankfully you can still visit and select your favorite finds in the the luxury online boutique until Jan. 7. Once you build your wish list in the virtual shop, the link will show where the item is find already on JCPenney.com.

That’s showing you how to rethink your JCPenney as the best place to shop for one-stop, affordable shopping for all things holiday this season.

And with JCPenney Reward opportunities, special offers for big savings like DEALS33, and much more, you can’t afford to not save at JCPenney. (Check online or in your circular for current discounts and promotions.)

Just take a look at some of my favorite holiday finds I picked after a online look at the Jacques Penne online boutique.

🚨 ACT NOW: Keep Public $$$ in Public Schools! 🚨

Click Here (takes less than one minute):
https://www.txpta.org/take-action

Tomorrow, March 11, the Texas House Committee on Public Education will hear HB 3. Let’s make it clear: Public money demands public accountability!

Texans have rejected vouchers since 1957—yet lawmakers are once again pushing them through with SB 2 and HB 3.

💰 Vouchers drain public school resources.
📉 They don’t improve student achievement.
❌ They aren’t about "parent choice"—private schools choose their students.
🏫 Texas parents already have school choice.

Governor Abbott is making vouchers a priority, but Texans are pushing back. Lawmakers are feeling the heat from voters who refuse to let public schools be undermined.

📲 Take 1 minute to make your voice heard NOW!

📷Jackson and Taylor are 2 of the 5.5 million reasons why Texas must keep public dollars in public schools. I was a product of public schools and had an amazing experience in a rural community with some of the best teachers. Change needs to happen, but taking away resources like these from schools is not especially when they ste already underfunded and our teachers’ morale is at an all time low. Communities work better together not when you separate them further apart.

🌲 Coca Cola Classic Christmas - Choctaw Stadium in Arlington
🗓️ Now through Dec. 29

Growing up @cocacola made the holidays magic, so when Coca Cola Classic rolled down the road, we had to go peek! Partnering with @enchantchristmas, the experience is part lights, part photo opps and for my kids mostly FOOD and overall a lot of fun - all washed down with (of course, a Coca Cola!)

What was also great was a little walk through memory lane with Coke Christmas moments throughout the years - cue the polar bears and 18 wheeler!

Experience:
🎅Market Square (definitely hit up the t-shirts - reading each one is half the fun)
🎅 Snow Tubing (always our favorite)Ice Skating (truth: we don’t skate, but it’s perfect people watching)
🎅 Interactive Light up Dance Floor
🎅 @cinemark Theatre with holiday movies
🎅 Coca-Cola Lounge - 21+ Cocktail experience (looked great to go with the girls)
🎅 Santa Landing

And of course, the Eatery! Eyes (and mouths) got big here with featured food from State Fair of Tex winners like The Drowning Tacos (SO GOOD we then ordered the Birria Tacos, too all cooked onsite and with all the sauce!)

It’s the real thing!

🗓️ Now through Dec. 31 (NYE) at 6 pm

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without @prairielights- with a packed car with blankets, Santa hats, hot cocoa and coffee, and blasting holiday music while we sing them even louder.

A stunning two-mile drive through light park complete with a midway stop - The Holiday Village with carnival rides, amazing bites (corndogs, funnel cakes and more, oh my!) And this year we were surprised with a new light tunnel, reimagined walk-through forest and new displays, great photo opps, gifts, visit with Santa, a lighted strollable forest.  It’s perfectly timed for food, fun and a little time on foot!

PRO TIP: Go early, get tickets in advance and spring for the fast pass on the weekends and prime holiday times. And enjoy it and don’t try to rush it - enjoy it! That includes entry and the experience (so bathroom before you go, but thankfully there’s one at The Holiday Village and you get the corn dog.)

Named after Bangkok’s legendary road of entertainment of all kinds (Sukhumvit Soi 11), it seems fitting this newly imagined destination would find its home in Arlington’s Entertainment District. Anchoring the NEW @loewsarlington, @soycowboytx (also from @bbbutchers / @berghospitality) recently swung open the curtain this summer with an opening that made heads turn at every corner of this 12,000 sq. ft. of sexy space - with 3 unique bars, patio, viewable kitchen and dining room.

To call it a “Pan Asian restaurant” doesn’t do it justice with its rich menu of fresh sushi, dim sum, caviar, truffle, lobster, waygu (all things you don’t find in the home of the margarita machine and ballpark nachos.) And if you’re looking for entertainment, just take a peek into the expansive kitchen and watch your rolls or omakase be made. The cocktail menu is just as extravagant with everything from mezcal to Japanese whisky, you’re eyes will be just as happy as your lips upon your first sip.

While we experienced live music, fashion show and more as part of the opening, the cool smoke installation and the people-watching is definitely just part of the menu at Soy Cowboy you’ll have to explore.

Food Nerd Note: SoyCowboy is on the upcoming @dfwrestaurantweek menu for just $39, so it’s a steal to take your own trip on a budget. (Make your reservation.)
