Disclaimer When I think of a spa day it NEVER has included one thought about the kids except who was watching them while I was there…however, in Carrollton, right outside of Dallas, there’s not only a day spa that you will love with three floors committed to recharging  your mind, body and spirit,  but a spa that’s created amenities for the kids. Spa Castle Dallas is a urban spa experience for the whole family. Spa Castle is the name of the fantasyland spa property right off George Bush Tollway and Josey Lane. For just $35 bucks you can live it up with the girls for a daycation just like you’d have at a resort (swim up pool with a bartender included), or just a quiet weekend with added Eastern-style spa services  and an overnight stay at the on-premise hotel, or even a fun getaway for the family for a relaxing day of water fun and dining. Pools-at-Spa-Castle Too good to be true? That’s probably why they called it a castle…I mean that is where we all think magical fairy tales come alive, right? But I have evidence it’s the real deal and one of my favorite Dallas places to spend a few hours (or maybe a few days if I’m lucky). With hydrotherapy pools, saunas, dining, spas and more, you will find relaxation at Spa Castle. Spa Castle is the perfect combination of traditional Asian saunas & luxurious European water spas. However, I did need a little 101 to figure out what to do once I entered the doors. But the very friendly staff led me in the right direction and ensured I was enjoying myself all day long. (You didn’t expect me to bring the kids this time, right? A mom has to scope things out first…)

Just a few things to know:

  • Wristband: After claiming my magical “wristband” at the front desk,  I was able to open and lock my locker, check in for spa appointments and even order a meal with my a show of my wrist (that’s attached to your credit card.)
  • Shoes: Because this is a spa built on Eastern practices, you’ll be leaving your shoes literally at the door in a special shoes only locker upon arrival. Then yoou will have another locker for your other clothes and belongings. You won’t be wearing shoes all day, but don’t worry, you’ll see them clean the floors more times in the day than I did my entire kitchen last year.
  • Clothes: You’ll be provided a spa outfit while you’re there of what seems like pink scrubs. You will wear those in the spa areas, a bathing suit in the pool areas and if you choose nothing in the hot tubs. But don’t worry, no pressure!
  • Pace Yourself: Like Disney World, you just can’t do everything in one day. Just enjoy things a little at a time and remember, that at only $35 you can afford to come back again and again.
  • Tips: Your gratuity is included in your spa service, so you really don’t have anything to worry about!

Featured as part of your $35-day pass, Spa Castle’s signature Sauna Valley features ten different saunas that help promote relaxation and detoxification. Each room has a different theme and purpose for you to find the best service for exactly what your body needs. From 24-karat gold, almost 200-degree temperatures and even a room that Elsa would be envious of, they’ve options if you have the time. I didn’t get to try them all out, but I was able to sneak in most of them for just long enough to take a shot. To learn more about the benefits of the sauanas, visit the website.

In addition to my sauna time, I also snuck in  a few spa services (there are tons to choose from) including  the luxurious caviar facial. I wasn’t sure exactly what caviar was doing on my face, but whatever it was, it did it well since my skin has felt and looked radiant every since. My facial also included a little shoulder massage as well so after I was done, I was almost too relaxed to do anything else…However, I didn’t want to leave Spa Castle without seeing a few of the places I planned to enjoy the next time when I bring the girls next month for a resort-type day only a few moments from home! IMG_2720

Outdoor Mystic Pool

Experience the same refreshing rush of water and pressure treatment on your head, shoulders, and back under the “deep mountain” waterfall. The evening sets an enchanting setting, enhanced by panoramic views to add to the peaceful ambiance of the pool area. IMG_2719

Hinoki Bath

Modeled after the famous Japanese baths of the past, the Hinoki Bath is built with ancient pine woods aged over 300 years old. Combined with minerals, the fragrant aroma of pine surrounds you as soon as you step into the heated waters. (It’s hot!) There’s so much to see and do at Spa Castle, I know I’ll be coming back with friends, the family and hopefully a few times just me. And just because you aren’t in Texas, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Spa Castle with several locations in the U.S. visit the website for more info.

My biggest daddy challenge right now is potty training my almost 4 year old, who has no problem going #1, but just refuses to go #2 in the potty. He even now has to change day cares because his current one set a deadline for him and he didn’t meet it. So my wife and I could definitely use a spa day.

Potty training was one of the hardest things ever for me and both my kids. No matter what method I tried I just ended up frustrated, defeated and with a lot of messes. If only there had been a potty training fairy…However, finally, both kids were potty trained! Best of luck! Keep the antibacterial nearby!

This sounds great! My biggest challenge lately has been staying healthy and exercising enough. It’s so hot and humid that it’s hard for me to stay motivated, but my husband took me to a mall today where we did laps and it was fun to get my exercise in that way. I’d love to win this to get a chance to relax!

I’m with you on that one. Every day is a bit of a challenge for me to work out. I love to work out actually, but the time to do it is my problem. I’m glad you have a partner that is willing to help. Support is a big part of it! You actually can lose calories in some of the saunas at Spa Castle just by enduring the heat!

My biggest challenge has been ailing grandparents! I had to make an impromptu drive to Illinois to help them out for a week! They’re doing OK, but at 95 and 88, they really need to allow us to get them some local help!

Taking care of aging family is hard. The stress is rough on everyone and while you love them, it’s diffult to see them get to a place where they can’t take care of themselves and then there’s your added frustrations. Make sure to keep you healthy though! I was in a similar place a few months ago and it was rough, but sleep and proper eating for me was imperative!

I could really use a spa vacation. That would help supplement the lack of available time for an out of town vacation this year! Trying to manage the crazy sports and activity calendars for two busy kids has me more than a little flummoxed. I feel like some days I’m no more than a minivan with a credit card.

My biggest mommy challenge just happened at my sons cardio visit. It was a great checkup after a rough open heart surgery. Doctor started talking about my 14 year old remembering his heart records for his future appointments out of the children’s hospital in the not do distant future. Hard to think of him having to manage it all on his own some day.

Christine, I can’t imagine how they moment felt for you. I know I’ll have to do that in the not-so-distant future and the anxiety comes flooding in. It’s hard to be a mom, but I know being a mom with a heart kid is on another level – even if they are having healthy appointments and no problems in sight. Bless you for being strong and that your son appreciates it even if he doesn’t know it yet!

🚨 ACT NOW: Keep Public $$$ in Public Schools! 🚨

Click Here (takes less than one minute):
https://www.txpta.org/take-action

Tomorrow, March 11, the Texas House Committee on Public Education will hear HB 3. Let’s make it clear: Public money demands public accountability!

Texans have rejected vouchers since 1957—yet lawmakers are once again pushing them through with SB 2 and HB 3.

💰 Vouchers drain public school resources.
📉 They don’t improve student achievement.
❌ They aren’t about "parent choice"—private schools choose their students.
🏫 Texas parents already have school choice.

Governor Abbott is making vouchers a priority, but Texans are pushing back. Lawmakers are feeling the heat from voters who refuse to let public schools be undermined.

📲 Take 1 minute to make your voice heard NOW!

📷Jackson and Taylor are 2 of the 5.5 million reasons why Texas must keep public dollars in public schools. I was a product of public schools and had an amazing experience in a rural community with some of the best teachers. Change needs to happen, but taking away resources like these from schools is not especially when they ste already underfunded and our teachers’ morale is at an all time low. Communities work better together not when you separate them further apart.

🌲 Coca Cola Classic Christmas - Choctaw Stadium in Arlington
🗓️ Now through Dec. 29

Growing up @cocacola made the holidays magic, so when Coca Cola Classic rolled down the road, we had to go peek! Partnering with @enchantchristmas, the experience is part lights, part photo opps and for my kids mostly FOOD and overall a lot of fun - all washed down with (of course, a Coca Cola!)

What was also great was a little walk through memory lane with Coke Christmas moments throughout the years - cue the polar bears and 18 wheeler!

Experience:
🎅Market Square (definitely hit up the t-shirts - reading each one is half the fun)
🎅 Snow Tubing (always our favorite)Ice Skating (truth: we don’t skate, but it’s perfect people watching)
🎅 Interactive Light up Dance Floor
🎅 @cinemark Theatre with holiday movies
🎅 Coca-Cola Lounge - 21+ Cocktail experience (looked great to go with the girls)
🎅 Santa Landing

And of course, the Eatery! Eyes (and mouths) got big here with featured food from State Fair of Tex winners like The Drowning Tacos (SO GOOD we then ordered the Birria Tacos, too all cooked onsite and with all the sauce!)

A stunning two-mile drive through light park complete with a midway stop - The Holiday Village with carnival rides, amazing bites (corndogs, funnel cakes and more, oh my!) And this year we were surprised with a new light tunnel, reimagined walk-through forest and new displays, great photo opps, gifts, visit with Santa, a lighted strollable forest.  It’s perfectly timed for food, fun and a little time on foot!

PRO TIP: Go early, get tickets in advance and spring for the fast pass on the weekends and prime holiday times. And enjoy it and don’t try to rush it - enjoy it! That includes entry and the experience (so bathroom before you go, but thankfully there’s one at The Holiday Village and you get the corn dog.)

Named after Bangkok’s legendary road of entertainment of all kinds (Sukhumvit Soi 11), it seems fitting this newly imagined destination would find its home in Arlington’s Entertainment District. Anchoring the NEW @loewsarlington, @soycowboytx (also from @bbbutchers / @berghospitality) recently swung open the curtain this summer with an opening that made heads turn at every corner of this 12,000 sq. ft. of sexy space - with 3 unique bars, patio, viewable kitchen and dining room.

To call it a “Pan Asian restaurant” doesn’t do it justice with its rich menu of fresh sushi, dim sum, caviar, truffle, lobster, waygu (all things you don’t find in the home of the margarita machine and ballpark nachos.) And if you’re looking for entertainment, just take a peek into the expansive kitchen and watch your rolls or omakase be made. The cocktail menu is just as extravagant with everything from mezcal to Japanese whisky, you’re eyes will be just as happy as your lips upon your first sip.

While we experienced live music, fashion show and more as part of the opening, the cool smoke installation and the people-watching is definitely just part of the menu at Soy Cowboy you’ll have to explore.

Food Nerd Note: SoyCowboy is on the upcoming @dfwrestaurantweek menu for just $39, so it’s a steal to take your own trip on a budget. (Make your reservation.)
