Holiday-Perfect Treatments To Make You Sparkle

December 23, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

In all the hustle and bustle of getting ready for the holidays with gifts, meals and more, one important to-do list that many of us seem to overlook is getting YOU ready. I mean what other time of the year do you see more people that you want to show off that you look and feel amazing (even when you don’t?)

To make sure you sparkle at your Christmas get-together or NYE party, you need to make time for these beauty treatments designed to make you look good and feel good – whether you were naughty or nice this year (they don’t discriminate!)

For the Face: HydraFacial MD

Before you even start – this facial is going to make your skin picture-perfect as soon as you walk out the door. Don’t worry – there’s no “Rudolph” after look.  In just an hour, my skin felt so soft and like I had taken a 20 hour nap while drinking three-days worth of water.  Whether it’s the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, congested and enlarged pores, oily skin, hyper-pigmentation or brown spots (which includes about everyone), your face is going to clean, fresh and selfie-ready. But what makes this facial so special that celebrities make it part of their skin routine monthly to keep them ready for their closeups anytime?

Hydrafacial

The HydraFacial® is a medical grade treatment and the only hydradermabrasian procedure that cleanses, detoxifies, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates all at once, offering long-term skin solutions that redefine the way people approach skincare. The HydraFacial® resurfacing procedure thoroughly cares for your skin, providing cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, and hydration, including Vortex-Fusion® of antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid. The HydraFacial® is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that delivers instant results with no discomfort or downtime.

HydraFacial-MD

Did I mention there are no tweezers, extractions, or pain but you still get all the benefits plus more? In just four steps, I experienced cleansing, exfoliation, acid peel, Vortex-Extraction™, and Vortex-Fusion®- all from the comfort of a soft warm bed at Rejuve Med Spa in Dallas (my local Med Spa, but you can find a location nearest you on the website.)

Step 1: Cleansing and Exfoliation
Featuring Activ- 4™, which is a combination of Lactic Acid and Glucosamine, this step softens and conditions skin, creating a clean canvas and leaving skin feeling refreshed.

Step 2: Acid Peel
This advancement in skin-resurfacing technology combines the benefits of aggressive exfoliation and chemical peels into a one-step resurfacing treatment. With the potent GlySal™ solution used in conjunction with HydraFacial®Vortex-
Fusion® technology, the cell-sloughing capabilities are unsurpassed for deep cleansing and exfoliation of the skin.

Step 3: Vortex-Extraction™
This multi-action step utilizes Beta-HD™ to soften sebum and impurities which aid in the automated, painless extraction process which uses gentle suction instead of squeezing.

Specialty Treatment For Fine Lines & Wrinkles (optional)
The uniquely formulated proprietary combination of advanced peptides found in DermaBuilder™ is designed to help smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, enhance skin elasticity, and help even skin tone and texture.

Step 4: Vortex-Fusion®
Designed to help detoxify and protect skin from environmental free radicals, the final step features an application of “super-serum” Antiox-6™ to replenish skin’s natural elasticity and hydration. This powerful formula combines deeply moisturizing Hyaluronic Acid with detoxifying antioxidants such as Vitamins A, E, White Tea Extract, Horse Chestnut Extract, and Rosemary Extract.

For the Nails: Red Door’s Orange and Pomegranate Manicure + Pedicure

I’m not going to show you what my nails looked liked before, but you know what laundry, dishes, kids and making dinner can do to a woman’s hands. Then throw in a Christmas tree, blinking lights, and wrapping gifts and you can imagine that they aren’t anything to every see the light of day. Much less the tension I was feeling in my legs and arms. However, it’s nothing a trip to Red Door Spa at couldn’t do to fix them both.

Nails

Experience the clean, fresh essence of orange & pomegranate in this season’s new nail & body services available for a limited time at the Red Door.

OrangePom_WhatsNew

This definitely ain’t your everyday, down-the-street-kinda mani and pedi. I mean there’s a reason Trudy referred to the Red Door as the top of the line in “Steel Magnolias” and today it’s still the case. Once you open those crimson doors, you are brought into a sacred place that invites you to drop it all at the door. For two hours, I enjoyed a premium sugar exfoliation, infused with the vitamin and antioxidant benefits of Orange and Pomegranate, stimulates collagen production and improves skin immunity. A hydrating wrap and paraffin treatment invigorates the senses while sealing in moisture to soften even the driest skin.  Now my nails and toes ready for not only the holidays but my anniversary, too. (In perfect southern fashion, I celebrated my experience by donning my new nails at the gun range!

Gotta love the shimmer on these nails. That’s how to put a little girl in the gun. #nails #guns #girls

For Your Mind + Body: Aromatherapy Shower

I am not a bath girl. While I love the idea of a long luxurious relaxing bath with bubbles, soft skin, and aromatheraphy sounds heavenly, who has time for all that? For a woman that is always on the go, my only washing is done in the shower and they normally last just long enough to slap on some shampoo, conditioner, and if my husband is lucky, a razor will find my legs. Thankfully, ESSIO has found a way to make the best of both worlds come together with the Aromatheraphy Shower. ESSIO is a unique and one of a kind item that transforms the everyday shower into a personal spa – all by the comfort of home. It’s an affordable luxury and a great gift, too!

Aromatherapy-Bath

The product is extremely easy to install. It usually takes less than 1 minute to get the entire starter kit set up, and with no tools. (Really, I did it like five minutes by clipping the attachment onto the standard shower pipe. The pod snaps onto place on the end and extend over the shower head into the water, instantly creating aromas like breathe, passion, unwind, wisdom and others.

Aromatherapy-Bath

The oils are 100% USDA-certified organic and there are no synthetics or harsh chemicals and help to reduce inflammation, increase blood circulation, reduce stress and improve mental well-being. (Yep, all from one little pod that can last 4-5 continuously aromatic showers and leave no residue!)

Honestly, this is one thing you should be asking for in your stocking stuffer so do yourself a favor and add it to the list of gifts you already are buying yourself, wrapping and then putting under the tree. Or get five minutes away before the hustle and get one today at local store or online (where you can get $10 off your first starter pack!)

Even with five minutes you can have a spa experience at home.

How do you get ready to shine and wind down for the holidays?

Holiday Wine Picks for Everyone at Every Price Point

December 19, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo 3 Comments

For most of us, a gifted bottle of wine will cover our bases with everyone from our girlfriends, co-workers, teachers and family members. However, don’t just go pick a wine based on its cute label or name or gift just want you like to drink. Consider the flavor profile based on that person’s personality as well as the price point your pocket book can handle.

Sonoma-County-Fall

Rather than make it difficult to choose the “perfect” bottle of wine, consider “visiting” a region like Sonoma County when gifting. One of the premier wine regions in the world, Sonoma County is home to more than 400 wineries and after a recent media event where I learned more about the region, it’s really an untapped area as compared to it’s more notable neighbor, Napa. And it will make you look really smart about your wine skills!

Price Point: $25.00 or less
For the dog walkers, doctors and teachers that impact everyday life, the following wines offer big flavor with a moderate price tag and are great additions to any holiday table:

Gundlach Bundschu 2013 Sonoma Coast, Estate DRY Gewurztraminer – $19.99
Gundlach Bundschu Winery
Aromas of allspice, jasmine and citrus burst from the bottle upon cork removal of the Estate DRY Gewurztraminer. With only 147 cases produced annually, it makes for a rare find.

The blend is comprised of 39% Zinfandel, 22% Syrah, 19% Grenache, 8% Alicante Bouschet, 4% Petite Sirah, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Mourvèdre including 40% whole cluster fermentation.

These are a Few of My Favorite Things…

December 18, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo 11 Comments

Need to stuff that stocking for that special someone? Here are a few of the things I am loving and suggest you have under the tree this year for your music lover, traveler, organizer, sweet tooth or hometown gal.

Because We’re Texas Grown and Texas Proud: Tumbleweed TexStyles

We are a PROUD Texas family and it shows. My hubs and I both grew up in tiny Texas towns where everyone’s related, so when we find out we weren’t, we decided we took the plunge (joke.) We always brake for Whataburger, West kolaches and Allsups burritos. Our home decor includes not one, but two rooms in which a Texas flag sits as the centerpiece of the room (no lie). Our home decor includes not one, but two rooms in which a Texas flag sits as the centerpiece of the room (no lie). Heck, even my son’s first word was “y’all…”ok, it wasn’t but it would have been funny if it had since his entire nursery was draped in red, white and blue stars. …Ok, it wasn’t but it would have been funny if it had since his entire nursery was draped in red, white and blue stars.

Willie_gray_M1_sm_5b64ca70-0429-4688-b7aa-41437ea1055c_large

So when I came across a shirt that said “Willie for President: Waylon for Vice” from Tumbleweed TexStyles when rolling through my Instagram feed one day, I knew I had to have it. Three days later when it came in the mail as a gift for my husband, I was kinda sad I didn’t get myself one. The shirt itself was the feel of your favorite shirt you’d been holding on to for years, but without the stains or work to get it there. And the personality possessed by all artfully creative pieces designed by the two Frisco, Texas teachers gives you the immediately feeling of driving down 35 with Pat or Robert Earl Keen playing in the background.

TWT

However, when I came across this shirt (and many more of them) I HAD to have it.  Available for both men and a special “off-the-shoulder” ladies version, the Texas Towns shirt pays homage to the many Texas towns within the state (although not all of them.  However, two special towns made the cut.  “Possum Kingdom” and “Seymour”, while not next to each other on a map, sit right together on this shirt, just like this duo.

For some people it’s in the stars, for us it’s in the shirts. Go find your own Texas love story on their website at http://tumbleweedtexstyles.com.

Because I’m OCD: Epson Portable Bluetooth Labelmaker

I firmly believe that everything should have a label and it has its place. When we moved into our home I couldn’t help but put labels on the light switch panels so I wouldn’t have to touch them all to figure out which one was the fan and which one turned off the TV. With a room devoted to bins of holiday decorations and old baby clothes (19 bins in all), you have to have a label. But it gets old running up and down the stairs to make a label, print a label, affix a label and repeat. And labeling takes on a whole new level when you have kids go to school. Everything should be labeled or you will never see it again.

Epson-Bluetooth-Printer
That’s why the Epson Portable Bluetooth Labelmaker rocks my world. Connected to my smartphone (or your tablet), the small label printed can fit in my car, in my purse or just under my arm as I take off upstairs to organize. Using both paper and CLOTH labels, you can have every piece of kids’ clothes properly labeled with their name and every box you’ll store after Christmas affixed with a reminder of what really sits in that box. Considering it a must-have for your official “I’m going to get organized” NYE resolution.

Because there’s Always a Need for Music: AwoX StriimLIGHT

I’m always listening to music. Whether I’m in the car, at my home office and cleaning the house, I’ve my favorite songs at work. The beat keeps me going and when I’m trying to relax, singing is how I destress and let it all out even if I can’t listen to the song on high blast. While I don’t have a system to play the music throughout the house, I do have a “lightbulb” that screws into into regular size outlet and in seconds, it plays music – while also continuing to light the space. I’d like to say I’m magic, but actually, AwoX is.

SL-W10_BK_web

AwoX is a pioneering connected smart home company that specializes in “dual use” bulbs! It is a WiFi or Bluetooth enabled light bulb that allows you to play music through a mobile phone or tablet playlist. Now, by just turning on the lamp, you can dance to your favorite tunes. In addition, you can synchronize your sound zones around the house with several StriimLIGHT WiFi speakers.

Need a better explanation? Just watch this and rather than buying everyone a speaker for Christmas, you’ll be buying a lightbulb that does both!

Because I’m so Dang Sweet – Candy Club

I’m sure there might be many people who disagree, I can confidently say I do love surprises, sweets and subscription boxes. So much so that I did a whole segment on the best subscription boxes out there! What started off as research, actually turned into a bad habit I can’t kick which is getting new, fun stuff in the mail every month. And this subscription one is the sweetest one yet – Candy Club.

First, choose a one, three, six, or 12-month plan option.  Second, receive your box of premium, hand-picked candy delivered to your home or business every month. Last – and most important – enjoy! Selections vary each month, offering members an assortment of three different types of candy stored in novelty Candy Club containers. One month’s box may surprise recipients with Haribo® Gummi Techno Bears, Sour Power® Wild Cherry Belts, Gimbal’s® Sour Gourmet Jelly Beans and, as an added bonus, Butterfields® Peach Buds – all on a bed of Sweet’s® Salt Water Taffy. Whether you’re craving a short-term fix or long-term satisfaction, Candy Club offers the perfect solution for your insatiable sweet tooth. And the presentation is oodles of fun too – sure to make your mood or someone else’s even better when they open this up each month.

Candy-Club-Favorite-Things

The best thing is that you can share with your friends or family. Or you can always find a place to stash those Haribo Gummi Techno Bears because they are out of this world!

Because this Gal Needs Her Sleep (even when she travels): Evolution Travel Pillow

I love to travel even if I don’t get to do it as much as like. However, when I do get to be on a plane or in the car for a long amount of time, I’m out. Like seriously out. I’m the girl you are staring out and making fun of on a flight because her head is bobing all around as I try to find the right way to find the perfect position for peace and sleep. I’ve tried many pillows in the past that I have done me well – for one flight or I lose it because it’s so big. Now I’ve found the pillow of my dreams from Cabeau. Known as the place for travelers, the Economy pillow does everything – including hold my smartphone + headphones, hold up my head and compress for easy storage.

Evolution-Pillow

If you are that person that travels OR know someone that is, they’ll appreciate you when they are flying a red eye and they were able to sleep in comfort.

DisclaimerAre you fretting what you will be doing with the kids after Christmas until school opens again in the new year? Never fear! There are many things to do in Big D including experiencing a whole new learning journey at the Perot Museum! Just take a look at some of the fun happening at this amazing museum – perfect for all ages! In celebration of its birthday and to thank visitors for two wonderful years, the Museum is offering a free hot cocoa with each purchase of a dessert in the Museum Café (offer valid Dec. 1 – Jan. 4).

Winter-Break-learning-Fun

Special Exhibit: 2theXtreme: MathAlive! (through Jan. 4, 2015)
Snowboard through a mountain pass, design your own video game, attempt an Ollie on a virtual skateboard, master engineer a modern city and capture a snapshot of yourself in 360-degrees. Then challenge a friend in a mountain bike race, jump into a ‘binary dance party,’ or program and control Curiosity, NASA’s next Mars rover. Those are just a few of the approximately 40 unique and interactive experiences offered up as this traveling exhibition brings to life the real math behind what kids love most – video games, sports, fashion, music, robotics and more. Innovative technologies and hands-on activities create interactive and immersive experiences that spark a passion for math and provide a formula for fun. 2theXtreme: MathAlive! is free for museum members and requires a surcharge along with purchase of general exhibits admission for non-members.

Robotics
By popular demand, the robot arena in the Texas Instruments Engineering and Innovation Hall will get a fresh, expanded look come Dec. 6. The robotic stations will increase from 4 to 16, allowing more visitors, young and old, to “play and learn” a wider variety of activities including challenges and competitions, which will be refreshed on a regular basis. The Museum also is introducing new robot types, including those with wheels, tank tracks and grippers. Four stations will be dedicated to the hugely popular robot programming, and four preschooler stations will have lower, 24-inch tables to engage the youngest Einsteins in age-appropriate activities. An additional eight stations will give visitors an opportunity to compete in challenge-based activities such as “Freeze Tag” and “Clean Sweep.”

Holiday Hot List: Blogger Gift Ideas Worth Tweeting

December 15, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo 1 Comment

Disclaimer

Bloggers are a special breed. If you are one, you totally know what I’m talking about. If you are the family member of one,  then you know that when you walk into the dining room to a perfectly propped dish on the table or you go out to eat dinner, you need to wait until pictures are taken before you take a bite.

But recipes and restaurant reviews aren’t the only thing a blogger is working on. Actually most bloggers become a little bit of everything – from crafter, to shopper, to stylist and more – bloggers have their hands in a little bit of everything. That’s why when it comes to Christmas, it’s kinda hard to buy for a blogger who’s read or written the review on most the new stuff out there. And by looking at their Pinterest it won’t help you narrow anything down because there’s probably 2000 pins – on just one of those 100+ boards.

So take it from this blogger, if you want to gift your #1 blogger (or actually anyone who really enjoys social media, writing or just being online), these ideas straight from Verizon Wireless will show you’ve done your homework. And more than likely you’ll get a social thank you with a tag just for you.

Droid Turbo by Motorola for Verizon

First of all, this phone is water repellent. That alone makes it one of the best smartphones on the market – bar none. However, after learning about the Droid Turbo and other state-of-art devices on the market straight from the source last week, I couldn’t help but get real excited when Motorola’s John Miramontes highlighted:

Gift Ideas for Caregivers and Service People

December 13, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo 76 Comments

It’s important to make sure to say thank you, but at the holidays it’s especially important to go the mile to let people who make your world rock like your kid’s teacher, postal worker, hairstylist and the nice neighbor down the street.

After much feedback from service works and caretakers, I’ve  learned a lot about what is right and what is wrong about gifting at the holidays.

Rules of gifting:

      • No candles or lotion with fragrance
      • No food
      • Love things that are homemade like something you or your child has made.
      • Doesn’t have to be expensive to be thoughtful!
      • It’s all about the presentation.

Go for Fun with Christmas PJs for the Family

December 10, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo 14 Comments

Tracking PixelChristmas is not Christmas without Christmas pjs, so I’m excited to partner with to celebrate this holiday with the whole family!

Past Christmases have always had a family photo and subsequently a Reo Family Christmas card. While I love the idea of the matching sweaters and picking out a beautiful dress for my daughter, this year there was just too much “other stuff” to deal with that I didn’t get things planned. And besides – the idea of posing in formal wear just didn’t seem like the right thing to do  for us. We needed fun.

We needed something comfortable. We needed

PJs#ShowYourJoes#Sway#Ad

I’ve always gotten the kids Christmas pjs but this year, we all needed a pair. Not necessarily all matchy (as my son likes to say), but a theme.

This was my source of inspiration – these over-the-top Santa boxer shorts. They even came with their own Santa hat so this is a perfect gift.

When I took a look at Kmart.com I saw Joe Boxer had tons of choices at inexpensive prices including the new exclusive designs. I ordered four pairs with a little something Santa and all for just around only $50!

Babies#ShowYourJoe#Ad#Sway

Joe Boxer has such a large assortment of styles the holiday like footed pajamas, hooded animal loungers, boxers, pajama pants/ shorts sets, and fleece pajama pants, we had options that ensured everyone had a pair of PJs they would love to have Santa see them in this Christmas.

#ShowYourJoe#ad

Remember last year’s Joe Boxer commercial with the bells? (You know that one…)This year they’ve gone to the drums with their new ‘Jingle Bells’ .

And this year they’ve spread the love to the ladies with ‘.

Always full of fun, Joe Boxer has a with everything from cupcakes to camo, traditional plaid to snowmen, and lots of funny sayings and caricatures.

And they had such super options for my little elves…or to be appropriate – Santas! A little bit sass and a whole lotta fun, Joe Boxer sold at Kmart is now our go-to solution for holiday PJs for us as well as gifts for friends and family. At such great prices and even options for free shipping, you can still get in your Christmas PJs for this holiday and a Chirstmas card too. Just take a look at the one we were able to put together in no time and all comfty in our

Best Dallas Bloggers Online Holiday Cookie Exchange

December 9, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo 4 Comments

A holiday cookie exchange is the ideal way at the holidays to reconnect with friends while stocking up on your own buffet of cookies! While I’ve hosted many exchanges, large and small, over the years, I think there are only a few guidelines to hosting the best cookie exchange. However, if you want the real lowdown on how to hand to do it by the book I suggest you the official website for cookie exchanges.

Best-Dallas-Bloggers-Online-Holiday-Cookie-Exchange.Unfortunately, as busy as many of my friends are, we decided to host an online cookie exchange featuring the tastiest recipes from some of the best bloggers in Dallas.

Since I am talking Dallas, you have to include the infamous Neiman Marcus cookie. If you’ve ever heard the myth, there was a woman who ate lunch at one of Dallas’ legendary luxury retailer. She enjoyed eating the cookie so much, she asked for the recipe. However, when she finally got her credit card bill that month she saw she had been charged $250 for the recipe. So out of revenge, she shared the recipe with everyone.

Neiman Marcus says it didn’t happen, however, the folklore is so popular, even they have put the story on their website. Funny enough I’ve actually come across multiple recipes for “the official” NM cookie recipe. However, I’ve tracked down the real one recipe – at least the one that NM claims to be the original. While basically a chocolate chip cookie recipe, it’s the special espresso powder that really give it the special something that makes you understand why you’d also pay $250 for a recipe…

Description

Whether or not the story of this recipe is true or not, the recipe is the real deal. While you can make modifications, start with this recipe for the best cookies. Ever. At least worth $250. (Thanks to the Neiman Marcus for the recipe! http://www.neimanmarcuscareers.com/index.shtml)

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup butter (one stick), softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 egg, large
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips, semi-sweet or darker
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons instant espresso

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cream the butter with the sugars using an electric mixer on medium speed until fluffy (approximately 30 seconds). Beat in the egg and the vanilla extract for another 30 seconds.
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift together the dry ingredients and beat into the butter mixture at low speed for about 15 seconds. Stir in the espresso coffee powder and chocolate chips. Using a 1-ounce scoop or 2-tablespoon measure, drop cookie dough onto a greased cookie sheet about 3 inches apart.
  3. Gently press down on the dough with the back of a spoon to spread out into a 2-inch circle. Bake for about 20 minutes or until nicely browned around the edges. Bake a little longer for a crispier cookie. – See more at: http://goodtaste.tv/recipes/showrecipe/display/neimans-authentic-chocolate-chip-cookie#sthash.I0XA6sMC.dpuf

Go Big this NYE with Big D Baklava {Recipe}

December 8, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo 26 Comments

Want to make a big impression on New Year’s Eve?Tracking Pixel Then make this Big D Baklava – huge on flavor, not on work!

When a group of obsessive-compulsive, Type A mom bloggers get together, we get together to plan for other get-togethers.  (Always multitasking we are!)

#Puff-Pastry-New-Years#ad

Recently a group of us met to share recipes and ideas for hosting a New Year’s Party and how to be the hostess with the mostest using Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry. While I’m already a huge fan of pastry puff wrapped brie (my holiday staple), I learned that I could create an entire party menu with a little creativity and a whole lotta puff pastry!

Pepperidge-Farms#Puff-Pastry#ad

Of course, as good mothers/party planners should, we had to “test” everything.

And it was good. Oh so good!

#Puff-Pastry-Table#ad

Did you know that Pepperidge Farm makes not only puff pastry sheets, but cups too? So you can use them for savory items as well as sweet ones like these creamy mushroom puffs. (They were as good as they sounded, believe me.) The puff pastry is made like pie pastry, but when the 60 flaky layers of dough are baked, it rises eight times higher in size!  Now that’s a Puff-Out Party!

#PuffPastry-Pepperidge-Farm#ad

One of my favorite holiday recipes I’ve been making for years is baklava. My father even requests it and he is a picky eater for his birthday. However, for the holidays, I wanted to add a little something to it for an even bigger taste. By using Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry and a little touch of chipotle powder, my baklava went from great to amazing! Even if you don’t like heat, you can’t taste the spice exactly, you get a new layer of flavors that can’t be beat and using the puff pastry, you get Texas-size baklava that will bring ’em coming back for more each time.

#Puff-Pastry-Baklava-Recipe#Ad

Of course, if you want a little more flavor, you can always turn up the heat. Here in Dallas, Texas everything is always a little bit bigger and a whole lot better, so I’m sharing my recipe for Big D Baklava.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (16 oz) Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry
  • 1 pound of nuts (I use 1/2 walnut + 1/2 pecan)
  • 1/2 cup butter (or 1 stick), room temperature so it can be spread
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle pepper (ground)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Butter the bottoms and sides of a pan with a lip (9×13 works well.)
  3. In a bowl, mix nuts, cinnamon and chipotle together. Set aside.
  4. Unwrap 1 puff pastry sheet, lay on counter or table and coat one side with butter.
  5. Divide sheet into 12 squares.
  6. Sprinkle 1/3 of nut mixture on each square.
  7. Next with 2nd sheet of puff pastry, butter and cut squares into 12.
  8. Sprinkle 1/3 of nut mixture then cover with squares.
  9. Add remaining nuts to top of pastry.
  10. Place squares in oven and cook for 15-20 minutes until brown.
  11. Meanwhile, boil sugar and water until melted. Add vanilla and honey. Simmer for about 20 minutes.
  12. Remove baklava squares from oven and spoon sauce over squares. Allow to cool. If using for gifts place on wax paper so they won’t stick. Leave uncovered or pastry will get soggy.

Holiday Fun for Everyone at the Hilton Anatole’s Sparkle

December 7, 2014 By Autumn Rose Reo 4 Comments

During the holidays is a great time for the family together and enjoy all the fun things to see and do – especially in Big D.

Sparkle-Outdoors

We have light amazing displays, a Santa that shoots fireworks as he backflips on an ice rink, roller coasters with snow sledding, and even millions of pounds of ice carved just like Frosty the Snowman. While they are all fun, there’s something to be said with all the work you go to for a few minutes of fun. Then there’s always the issue with trying to figure out what “thing” is going to make everyone happy all at the same place. And if you have little ones, waiting in line doesn’t make a good start to any outing.

Ice Rink-Anatole-Dallas

Click Here (takes less than one minute):
https://www.txpta.org/take-action

Tomorrow, March 11, the Texas House Committee on Public Education will hear HB 3. Let’s make it clear: Public money demands public accountability!

Texans have rejected vouchers since 1957—yet lawmakers are once again pushing them through with SB 2 and HB 3.

💰 Vouchers drain public school resources.
📉 They don’t improve student achievement.
❌ They aren’t about "parent choice"—private schools choose their students.
🏫 Texas parents already have school choice.

Governor Abbott is making vouchers a priority, but Texans are pushing back. Lawmakers are feeling the heat from voters who refuse to let public schools be undermined.

📲 Take 1 minute to make your voice heard NOW!

📷Jackson and Taylor are 2 of the 5.5 million reasons why Texas must keep public dollars in public schools. I was a product of public schools and had an amazing experience in a rural community with some of the best teachers. Change needs to happen, but taking away resources like these from schools is not especially when they ste already underfunded and our teachers’ morale is at an all time low. Communities work better together not when you separate them further apart.

PRO TIP: Go early, get tickets in advance and spring for the fast pass on the weekends and prime holiday times. And enjoy it and don’t try to rush it - enjoy it! That includes entry and the experience (so bathroom before you go, but thankfully there’s one at The Holiday Village and you get the corn dog.)

Named after Bangkok’s legendary road of entertainment of all kinds (Sukhumvit Soi 11), it seems fitting this newly imagined destination would find its home in Arlington’s Entertainment District. Anchoring the NEW @loewsarlington, @soycowboytx (also from @bbbutchers / @berghospitality) recently swung open the curtain this summer with an opening that made heads turn at every corner of this 12,000 sq. ft. of sexy space - with 3 unique bars, patio, viewable kitchen and dining room.

To call it a “Pan Asian restaurant” doesn’t do it justice with its rich menu of fresh sushi, dim sum, caviar, truffle, lobster, waygu (all things you don’t find in the home of the margarita machine and ballpark nachos.) And if you’re looking for entertainment, just take a peek into the expansive kitchen and watch your rolls or omakase be made. The cocktail menu is just as extravagant with everything from mezcal to Japanese whisky, you’re eyes will be just as happy as your lips upon your first sip.

While we experienced live music, fashion show and more as part of the opening, the cool smoke installation and the people-watching is definitely just part of the menu at Soy Cowboy you’ll have to explore.

Food Nerd Note: SoyCowboy is on the upcoming @dfwrestaurantweek menu for just $39, so it’s a steal to take your own trip on a budget. (Make your reservation.)

(Well today at least.)

Normally we’re always behind the smartphone camera, today we stepped out in front of the TV screen! The lovely folks at the new morning show Morning on Merit Street @morningonmeritstreet invited DFN for a little “roundtable” discussion about dining trends with our own Food Nerd @autumnreo / @mamachallenge and Bill Trevino of @craftandvinerestaurant CraftandVine along with hosts @dominiquesachse and @fanchonstinger for a little dishin’ on dining!

(If you’re able to take a look online, keep watching to see our new friend Pearl 🐶 and friends from @sweetpearlsicecream share their incredibly sweet story with @hungreehannah!)

✔️ And just like we shared on the show, we want to know what you think! What do you think about Table Limits on reservations? Yes restaurants should have them or no way?
