Last year was my son’s first year of school. Like every mom I thought my child was superkid; supersmart and super ready for anything that first grade threw at him.
What I learned is that while there were some areas he did wonderfully at, some areas he just wasn’t cutting it. To make sure he didn’t fall behind, it required not only he and I work together at night, but weekly tutoring with his teacher AFTER school. Each week she met with him separately for an hour to work on homework. Not as part of a special fee; not as something we did for just a few months, but throughout the whole year. It wasn’t easy, but it made a huge difference for him going forward and his attitude on school (especially reading!)
Teachers like Mrs. Morales at Viridian Elementary deserve to be recognized not just for their great teaching, but because of their attitude to go”over and beyond.”

My oldest has had a streak of really awesome teachers ,but one stands above the rest for sure. I would nominate her 🙂
I absolutely love these. It infuriates me that someone gets paid millions of dollars to catch a ball, but our teachers don’t have the funding to properly supply their classrooms without dipping into their own pockets.
I think teachers are some of the most amazing people in the world. What other person would use their own money to supplement their job supplies?
Teachers are grossly underpaid. I also very much agree with Jennifer’s comment above!
We’ve been lucky enough to live in the same area for almost 40 years. Thus our grandkids are are/have attended the same schools thier father attended. Thier elementary school principal was our daughter’s kindergarten teacher. We’re all good friends. And our oldest grandson is in the same high school our kids graduated from with many of the same teachers and coaches. We’ve been lucky enough to have excellent teacher and mentors for our kids and grands.

I hate that teachers have to pay so much out of pocket. We try to donate as much as we can to help ease the cost.
I love this idea! Teacher should be paid a million bucks for all they do, I know my son’s teacher spends soome of her own money too. I will totally be ding this!
I know teachers sometimes take a lot of flack for only working about 9 months out of the year, but they deserve that break. They are hard working and have to put up with those kids, that’s tough!
I have many teachers I would raise a hand for. We have been very blessed and all three kids had the same amazing KINDER teacher and I wouldn’t have had it any other way 🙂 This is a great program. Thanks for sharing.
