“I Ate All Your Cookies!” and other things you wish you could tell your kids {Book Review}

February 15, 2013 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

After all the fun of Valetine’s Day crafts, cupcakes and cuddles, there was the aftermath of children very “high” on sugar from cookies and candy running crazy around my house. While I love my children more than life itself, it is days like these that make me want to tell them the things I’m really thinking like:

If honesty is the best policy, then getting a copy of this book from your pediatrician or OB should be a requirement.

“I Ate All Your Cookies”  admits all the secret truths that parents are thinking in their head, but will  (probably) never share with their children. From blowing the cover on who Santa really is to revealing that the dog is not actually living on a farm chasing bunnies, this book shares hundreds of relatable thoughts for any parent who has ever considered letting their kids know they really feel.

Virgins Saints & Angels New Line Brings Out the Princess (or Witch) In You

February 8, 2013 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Every little girl dreams of being a princess. Except this one.

While, I’m pretty sure there was a time I wanted to wear a tiara and be Snow White (although this quiz says I’m a Cinderella), my dreams were really to be the witch – cackle, magical powers and all. Thankfully, high school drama musicals allowed me that opportunity to live out my fantasy as well as every Halloween where I love to donn my hat while I take my children trick-or-treating. (Isn’t that convenient?)

However, the celebrity-loved line, Virgins Saints & Angels now makes it possible for me to fulfill my fairytale fantasy and look good doing it any day of the year with their new line inspired by ABCs “Once Upon a Time.” (If you haven’t watched this one; make sure you catch up first on Netflix to get the rundown on this fairytale-come-to-life Sunday show the whole family can enjoy. It’s kinda complicated the first go-around, but be prepared to be hooked.)
Not only does my inner witch love these pieces, but that small sliver of me that still loves Madonna in her “Like a Virgin” days, adores it. How could you not? Take a look at some of my favorite pieces I coveted during the preview event on Feb. 7 at Swag.
Not me, but totally wanted everything around her neck!

I’ll do the laundry with a smile if I can do it with that tiara!

Virgins Saints & Angels makes it fashionable to wear dragons, daggers and spiders year-round.

you say Valentine’s Day, my pretty!?!

You too can get your little paws on this line. And if you have a little time on Friday, Feb. 8 from 1-4 p.m, you can also meet the lady who made fairytales come to life with the Virgins Saints & Angels’ Cheryl Finnegan at Swag. The global trunk show runs until Sunday, Feb. 10 or you can always order a piece online at Swag!

The Cake Mamas Would Rather Wear Than Eat

February 6, 2013 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Want-it Wednesdays:

When you’re pregnant, the words “mint,” “toffee,” “chocolate” and “torte” immediately give you tasty visions of sugar plums (and probably create a little craving, too.) On the other hand, the idea of bras and undies when you’re pregnant certainly doesn’t conjure up any sweet thoughts, but rather ugly images of “boulder holders.”

And that’s where the expectant and nursing moms’ lingerie line Cake cut in.
Taking one of the biggest complaints of moms and moms-to-be, the company gave itself a name that was sure to ignite the want in every mama! And just in time for Valentine’s Day, Cake’s sweet line offers the much-needed style and polish for new and expecting moms that can make you look beautiful when you don’t always feel that way (pregnancy certainly does a number on you.)

Here’s a little sampler of the Cake line:

(Hint to dads and hubbies: this is a great present for Valentine’s Day gift for your baby’s mama!)

Mint Toffee Bra and Boy Shorts
Toffee is a confection made by caramelizing sugar or molasses and adding butter and occasionally flour. The mixture is decadently sweet and so is Cake’s Mint Toffee.  Gorgeous green color and sleek styling, it is ULTRA HIP looking and sophisticated.

Shortbread Bra and French Knickers
Shortbread is a classic Scottish dessert made with flour, sugar, and butter. For centuries shortbread was expensive and reserved as a luxury for special occasions such as Christmas.  Shortbread from Cake pairs FUN COLORS of orchid and green on a smart tartan frame and then adds cream-colored lace! Sure to wow a young mama and make her feel like a goddess.

Cotton Candy T-Back Bra and Briefs
Remember watching spellbound as the cotton candy maker at the fair spins a confection that looks like pillows of wool but melts in your mouth like a snowflake? Light pink, soft and pretty and considered one of “The Most Comfortable Maternity Bras,: the bra has a feminine, sporty design. Uniquely constructed with a silky soft knit and intelligently placed support panels, Cotton Candy will expand and change with the woman who wears it.

Cake lingerie and sleep wear (so comfortable and beautiful) is sold in more than 30 countries and 350 stores worldwide including Nordstrom’s in Dallas as well as online.

At least if you’re breastfeeding or sitting there with swollen feet your bra looks good, right?

This Real Housewife to a REAL Real Housewife: An Interview with RH of Orange County’s Heather Dubrow

February 4, 2013 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Me Mondays:

There are many days that I wish I could be a member of the Real Housewives of enterprise…on Bravo. The makeup, the hair, the clothes and of course, the houses! I’m a huge fan of the original The Real Housewives of Orange County and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, their lives seem so different than this real housewife back in DFW…

Or is it?

Heather Dubrow from RHOC
(photo: Bravo)
I recently had the chance to chat with Heather Dubrow, the only beautiful brunette from the RHOC. She’s married to a plastic surgeon’s wife, a mother of FOUR kids, a TV actress (she’s been on several sitcoms on primetime), and oh yeah, a reality star. So it was hard to think what this gal and I could possibly have in common except brown hair. However, after only a few minutes, I was totally at ease chatting with her. She was a likeable girl and we had a nice chat on just being a mom and women!

Here’s a little bit of what I learned from our chat:

About the Show:
Her husband, a plastic surgeon, has also been on reality TV shows like The Swan, really wanted her to do the show. Now she’s glad she did and she’s happy to have met the girls. “Tamara, Gretchen and Vicky are great gals.”

[Ok, my hubby isn’t a surgeon on TV, but he’s a real cut up…tee-hee!]

About her Personal Philosophy:
“I’m not perfect – I have a beautiful life that I am thankful for, but I am a real person.”

[I hear you sister!]

On Family:
“Our family go-to meal is one of my favorites to make – it’s breakfast for dinner with biscuits, eggs and bacon. It’s great because we all come together and enjoy it as a family.”

[Did you read the part about her making the food and no chef? In the winter I love to make breakfast for dinner. What’s your favorite go-to dish in a quickie?]

On Her Looks:
“I’m an active person with a healthy eating. And to keep fit, I have a trainer 2 times a week.”

[I try to be this girl everyday. I think we all do, right?]

On Her Must Haves:
One thing she must have is her mobile phone and a big bag of Twizzlers!

[I HAVE to have my Iphone and I bet I can always find a bag of Goldfish!]

See I totally could be on a Real Housewives’ candidate. Sign me up!

Season 8 of The Real Housewives of Orange County is set to premiere in late March! So make sure to check your listings for more info or follow them on Facebook.

A Little Box of Skin Miracles?

January 28, 2013 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Me Mondays:

Like most women, when it comes to your skin, you don’t take care of it until it’s already too late. Then of course, you feel like you are barraged with tons of expensive products and complicated routines to try to hold on to your 16-year-old skin. Last week I shared 5 practical tips for taking care of your skin that don’t have to cost a lot. However, this week it was time I felt it was time to admit to something.

A few weeks ago I couldn’t sleep, so I turned on the TV to see what was on. Of course, all I could find was every kind of infomercial possible. While I was looking through the channel guide I somehow got sucked into one of them.  After about 10 minutes of watching it through the little window, I finally succumbed to watch:

As you can see, there wasn’t anything terribly exciting or compelling about the video, but I still found myself ready to call and order. Perhaps it was because I already like Philosophy’s products, perhaps it was because it was a really good deal for what would retail as twice as much if I purchased them separately at Sephora, or perhaps it was because it was 4 am in the morning and I was convinced I could take 10 years off my skin. Maybe it’s because they said they would give me back my money if it didn’t like it.

With this big of a promise as well as the results that could happen in less than 12 weeks, I’ve been pretty happy with the results. While not dramatic enough to warrant a BEFORE and AFTER photo as good as the ones they show on the site, I can tell you this: The steps are easy to do both morning and night.
The cleanser is already an award-winning favorite from tons of places. It smells great and makes my face feel soft, but not greasy. While it says it can be used to clean eye makeup, I still use my drugstore kind to assist in the cleanup, but it does the job. I wish that it was either in a pump or an upright bottle so I can squeeze it easily to moderate the amount.

I’m really picky about my moisturizers so I love that this one isn’t heavy or feels thick on my skin although I prefer a gel or serum to a cream. I also like that it has a nice scent, but isn’t too overbearing, just clean.
The best part though is what they refer to as the TREAT – the anti-aging retinoid pads. This “miracle worker” features Philosophy’s own high-performance retinoid called HPR to deliver all of the skin benefits of a retinoid, with less potential for irritation. Bottom line: it reduces skin discoloration, restores a healthy-looking glow, and improves the look of wrinkles and pores. With my pores, my dull skin and all my discoloration, I was all about this HPR that you mix yourself. When it comes in the cute little box, you actually pour the potion over what looks like a container of “Stridex pads.” Each night you just wipe it over your face. No irritation and this nice layer of moisture.
Are you ready to buy your own box of miracles? You can buy it online too — and you get two free gifts too (my favorite part!)

[Putting on my best TV voice]: With your purchase you also get the All-Over Brightener and Dark Spot Corrector as well as a Sunscreen. I’m using the Brightener religiously and hope, while they really can’t get rid of freckles, all the special gifts that pregnancy did to my face can be remedied. If this stuff works the way others have claimed it has, then I’m buying this in bulk.

So far so good at one week. I haven’t had breakouts, reactions and it seems like things are looking a lot brighter. Hopefully, soon I’ll see some miraculous work!

Let’s Shake It Up: Advocare Shake vs. Vi-Shape Shake

January 21, 2013 By Autumn Rose Reo 15 Comments

It’s hard to think that by drinking a shake you could better your health, but for decades with products like Slimfast, Advocare and Vi-Shake, you can now drink your meal while lose weight. Additional, some of these companies also allow you to make money while changing your lifestyle. Since this month I’ve really concentrated on losing some much needed weight, I decided to take a look at the two shakes I’ve had a chance to sample, AdvoCare Meal Replacement Shake and ViSalus Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake to see which one was better.

But before going any further, I am adding the disclaimer: I am receiving no financial gain for this post and do not sell either of these products. However, if you choose to purchase either of these brands, I am supplying two friends’ links, so you can easily purchase your meal replacement shake choice!

BUY AdvoCare Meal:  Replacement Shake     BUY ViSalus Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake

Taste:

Plano-based AdvoCare Meal Replacement Shake is available in three flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, and Berry. The basic recipe calls for water and then if you like, you can add fruit, ice, etc.

Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake Mix is available in Sweet Cream flavor. By adding milk, Almond milk or water, you can add your own ingredients to create a special recipe.  You can also get ViSalus Health Flavor Mix Ins like chocolate, banana and strawberry are also an option for a quick variation or base.

I enjoyed both of these shakes’ flavors, especially the Almond Joy Vi-shake recipe I found (along with the more than 100 other recipes.) While I didn’t try it with the Advocare chocolate base, I’m sure it would work similarly to the Vi-Shake recipe. The Advocare shake, as directed, and the Vi-Shake blend I concocted (the basic recipe with Almond Milk and a provided Chocolate Mix in) tasted like a Carnation Instant Breakfast and didn’t seem like I was skipping out or having a “diet” shake.

Nutrition:

While both shakes taste good, we are talking meal replacement shakes that most people drink in efforts to LOSE or manage weight. So let’s get straight to the point.

Advocare Chocolate Flavor
Vi-Shape Shake
Total Calories: 220
Total Fat: 3 g
Total Cholesterol: 40 mg
Total Sodium: 80 mg
Total Carbohydrates: 24g
Total Dietary Fiber: 6 g
Total Sugars: 12g
Total Protein: 24g
Total Calories: 90
Total Fat: 1 g
Total Cholesterol: 15 mg
Total Sodium: 75 mg
Total Carbohydrates: 7g
Total Dietary Fiber: 5 g
Total Sugars: <1 g
Total Protein: 12 g

In addition to the list of minerals and vitamins each of the meal replacement shakes contains, Advocare utilizes a combination of whey protein concentrate, calcium caseinate, milk protein isolate and an amino acid blend while Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake comprises a blend of Tri-sorb protein, non-GMO soy protein, fibersol, pro-biotics and aminogen.

Now before looking at the list to see the obvious, consider what exactly we are comparing. For instance, ViSalus Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake may seem like it has fewer calories, less fat, cholesterol, sodium, sugars and carbohydrates, the label is only for the basic cream flavor (smells like birthday cake) recipe using water. Unfortunately, I’ve rarely heard of people (including myself), using water, but rather milk as well as mix-ins like fruit, extracts, etc. So actually, you need to add these additional products like milk (which adds additional carbs, sugars and protein) to the mix as well as any other flavors. So make sure you are looking at apples to apples before making your meal replacement option!

Cost:

AdvoCare Meal Replacement Shakes are $39.95 for 14 individual pouches so each shake is approximately $2.85.

Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake is $59 for a 30-serving supply sack or $49 if you choose to get join their auto-ship program, so each Vi-Shape is $1.63. (However, if you are adding other items to the shake, the bottom like cost is more than $1.63.) Additionally, if you refer 3 customers to buy the Vi-shake mix via your link, you get yours free the next month.

So what’s the best option? I’ll admit, it’s a hard to look at just taste, nutrition and cost to make the best choice. I know I couldn’t based on these facts. Both made me full, tasted good and provided my daily vitamins and minerals. I loved the fact that with the Advocare I could dump water, ice and the envelope into the blender and I had a delicious breakfast rather than to put together a special recipe with mixins and milk from Vi-Shake. However, late at night when I craved something bad, the Vi-Shakes are what I craved to fight off the bad things I wanted to eat, but shouldn’t.

So unfortunately, like many diet and nutrition programs, you have to make the best choice for your and your body. I’ve seen and heard many success stories for both products and I know I’ve tried both programs and certainly will continue with both challenges to see what works best for me.

BUY AdvoCare Meal:  Replacement Shake     BUY ViSalus Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake
Have you tried Advocare or the Vi-Shake?

How NOT to Be a Clueless Chick in 2013

January 7, 2013 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Me Mondays {Review}:

This month I’m dedicated to making us all a little better — whether it’s more healthy, more beautiful or more organized, we’re aimed at creating an IMPROVED ME. For me to reach my goals, I’ve got to make a list. I’ve got ’em over the place – from long-term lists to daily post-its, putting things in lists WITH DATES remind me to stay on track and get things done.

So I was so happy to find a new series I’m in love with that I only wish I’d found about four years ago – when I was pregnant and a new mom with “The Clueless Chick” series.

Mom, Type A/OCD type and author Jennifer Durbin created a new line of books that’s perfectly suited for moms with busy schedules looking to be the best they can be – “ClffsNotes” style. Her first three books are all less than 100 pages and packed full of lists and helpful fundamentals to make some of life’s most stressful moments,  manageable.

Party Planning Tips for The Clueless Chick
While we all aspire to be Martha Stewart, let’s be honest, it’s not always possible. The Clueless Chick is here to help with simple templates and ideas you need to create the best party, shower, networking event, etc.

Baby Traveling Tips for The Clueless Chick
Any mom will tell you that first time you load up for that first trip with your baby, you feel like you are loading up your whole house in the back of your car. But after a few months, your must-haves change significantly to the real bare essentials. In this book, she outlines how to survive going to restaurants, staying in hotel rooms, etc. with kids. This book of lists is great for first-time parents to those of us with a few under our arm who might need some reminders.

Pregnancy Tips for The Clueless Chick
Just found out your pregnant and don’t know what to do? Don’t inundate yourself with every book ever written on the topic, start with this book to give you a little direction and feel like you understand a little something! From how to extend your existing clothing, where to find new fashionable maternity clothing, to what you really need to put on your registry, this is a great starter book that should be given to you when your test puts out a positive!

Looking Forward to 2013: Look Fab While Getting Fit with pvBody

December 17, 2012 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Me Mondays:

I’m excited to report that everyone on my Christmas list is checked off!  However, when you are the gift buyer, you also are normally the one who doesn’t get a lot of gifts. However, I decided that there was one thing I really wanted (and needed) since next month I’ll kick my body and this blog into health and fitness central… it was time to replace the workout gear of yesteryear…(and you know what I’m talking about!)

Ever wondered when you’re hitting the stair climber or dying in spin class how come that gal across from you always has the cutest workout gear and you still sit in the same black and gray sweats from college? If that’s not enough to make you stay at home, at least the need to work off two children (and then some) normally motivates me to at least go. But looking cute while trying to get to my “cute” is hard although it is one of the tips fitness experts tell you to do so you can stick with your fitness goals.

Unfortunately, even when you’re buying at discount stores the magic of spandex doesn’t come cheap and time to shop comes at an even greater cost. But thankfully,  has made looking good while you workout actually something possible and even easier than going shopping!

How does it work?

  1. Take the quick quiz and create a personal pv.body style profile.
  2. Our experts will put together a personalized outfit for you (from some of the best fitness apparel companies like lululemon – one of my favorites) and at their special price of $49.95.
  3. Then they ship your outfit to your door for free each month!

It is that easy and just like Christmas, there was a nice little box sitting on my doorstep with a lovely outfit inside, based on my size, color and the kind of gear I was looking for (not quite there with the boy shorts, but soon.) Now isn’t that so much more carpool workout appropriate?

Wondering what your box might have in it, then check out this video about what your box of goodies could look like once you take the profile test.

Best of all, just in time for the holidays, they are giving my readers a special little holiday gift, too!

Just for you:

A little special for you just when you need it most:  gets you a $15 Lululemon gift card, plus 25% off your first month subscription.

More about :

Easy peasy lemon squeezy: pvBody is easy. Take the quiz, sign up and boom, an awesome package arrives at your door each month with a hand picked outfit for you!

Every outfit is styled just for you by a pvBody expert. Each month you receive an outfit worth $150, but you pay just $49.95. You’re getting great, quality pieces for a fraction of the retail cost thanks to the relationships pvBody has built.

pvBody is not just another clothing company, but a lifestyle brand. Their blog is a great place to check out tips and tricks for healthy, delicious meals and at home workouts.

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of pv.body. The opinions and text are all mine.

Searches, Cards and Gifts that Give Back BIG

December 10, 2012 By Autumn Rose Reo Leave a Comment

Me Mondays:

My “Me Monday” is all about checking off my holiday to-do list and perhaps thinking a little bigger – giving. Christmas is all about giving. So this Christmas consider not just giving a gift, but making a bigger impact with the gifts that you give. Here’s a great list of how you can make a difference by just buying a gift, creating your holiday cards or just searching for gifts online.

GIFTS

World Vision Gift Catalog | http://www.worldvisiongifts.org

The WorldVision Gift Catalog allows you to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas. With the tagline, “Give a gift. Change a Life,” 86% of ever gift goes to programs helping children and families overcome poverty in nearly 100 countries.  As easy as thumbing through your Pottery Barn catalog, you can choose to make a specific donation for a specific cause like hunger, clean water, and medical attention for someone in need – like purchasing two goats and a cow to help a family be more self-sufficient to buying toys for children in a village.

Also, for those looking for something to give in honor of your donation, you can make a financial contribution, by selecting one of 36 Maximum Impact items that can be given to a loved one and at the same time help a person in need. And the items are as unique as the donations like an Artisan Beaded Necklace, a homemade, glass-bead necklace from Thailand.  However, the work of WorldVision and their need doesn’t end at Christmas, so visit their Facebook to learn more about this prolific Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential.

Impact Foods | http://www.impactfoods.com
Inspired by the growing movement of Conscious Capitalism (think Tom’s Shoes), Ben Hurt and Blaine Iler endeavored to create a business that could change the world. So Dallas-based Impact Foods was born with a simple, but prolific concept:  for every bag they sell, a hungry child is fed.

While making it that easy to make an “impact” on someone else’s life is enough to eat another bowl of cereal, Impact Foods, an official partner of the World Food Program, they’ve upped the ante this December by feeding two children for every bag sold. With all-natural ingredients, whole grains, no fructose syrup and flavors like vanilla, maple oat and blueberry honey, when you pour it in a bowl, it’s just like it came out of the oven. So this year, if you’re a little short of time and creativity, consider a little Impact Foods in a pretty jar or bag with a spoon and a nice bowl for a neighbor, fitness friend or the gals at work.  They’ll be happy and you’ll done your good deed that might score you a few more points on Santa’s list. Get your bags of Impact Foods at Amazon, Whole Foods as well as many places in DFW.

Fresh Cup of Hope | http://www.freshcupofhope.com
Coffee baskets are one of the most purchased (and enjoyed) holiday gifts. Consider this holiday not only to give your obligatory coffee basket, but also to “make a difference, one cup at a time.” Because The Fresh Cup of Hope Cofee Co. works directly with the farmers and the principles of Fair Trade, they are ensuring that the farm they work with is self-sustaining and the lives of the workers are being improved with housing, better nutrition and overall health, tutors for the children and pastors who work directly with them. It’s amazing that something as simple as your choice in coffee can make a large, measurable difference in the lives of others, so consider pairing a bag of Jamaican Me Crazy, Cinnamon Pecan Brownie or Snickerdoodle with a $1 coffee cup from the Dollar Tree for a small gift that does big things.

HOLIDAY CARDS

Cardraising Greeting Card Fundraising | http://www.cardraising.com

Every year my mantle is full of Christmas cards from family and friends. Consider that each one of those cards sent could have also gone to help other organizations like your local school, church or even your child’s sporting team. That’s exactly what Cardraising does. Last year best friends Derek Sparta and Emil Jorge decided to create a sustainable business that could afford to give back 30% of its revenues to help others, so they developed Cardraising to help other organizations prosper when you create your holiday cards, birth or graduation announcements. While it’s still a growing business and 2012 is out for your organization to apply for the opportunity to participate, you can still pick out a lovely holiday card design that can benefit your preferred organization like Dallas-based Communities Foundation of Texas, one of the nation’s largest community foundations, in terms of total assets, gifts received and grants awarded.

ONLINE SEARCH

Save1 | http://save1.com

Save1 makes it even easier to make a difference, just by searching online for deals and discounts. Each time you use one of our coupons or special deals to save money, they use a portion of their commission to provide a nutritious meal for a hungry child. With 90,713 already purchased, they save you money and then they buy food for others (by doing what you are doing online to buy your gifts, anyways!) So consider using http://www.save1.com for your holiday shopping this year and while you are at it, you can buy a meal for someone else.

See what good you can do by just doing what you are already going to do this holiday.

It’s as vastly different as the landscape as Texas. Now I’m off to @burntbeanco - #sequin here we come with the rest of the state!

🚨 ACT NOW: Keep Public $$$ in Public Schools! 🚨

Click Here (takes less than one minute):
https://www.txpta.org/take-action

Tomorrow, March 11, the Texas House Committee on Public Education will hear HB 3. Let’s make it clear: Public money demands public accountability!

Texans have rejected vouchers since 1957—yet lawmakers are once again pushing them through with SB 2 and HB 3.

💰 Vouchers drain public school resources.
📉 They don’t improve student achievement.
❌ They aren’t about "parent choice"—private schools choose their students.
🏫 Texas parents already have school choice.

Governor Abbott is making vouchers a priority, but Texans are pushing back. Lawmakers are feeling the heat from voters who refuse to let public schools be undermined.

📲 Take 1 minute to make your voice heard NOW!

📷Jackson and Taylor are 2 of the 5.5 million reasons why Texas must keep public dollars in public schools. I was a product of public schools and had an amazing experience in a rural community with some of the best teachers. Change needs to happen, but taking away resources like these from schools is not especially when they ste already underfunded and our teachers’ morale is at an all time low. Communities work better together not when you separate them further apart.

While many of the animals sleep, DinoLumia and DinoVision: a Jurassic adventure comes out to play, along with tons of holiday light photo opps and winter fun experiences. Enjoy catching up through self-guided, self-paced walk-through and spend time together while taking photos, which is ideal if you don’t like the holiday overload! And don’t sleep on Santa here, as he has a certain twinkle in his eye the kids always seem to like to catch up with (mom was even able to get a shot.)

And for the even bigger kids over 21, Dallas Zoo: After Dark, goes wild on Thursday, Dec. 12, 6-9 PM with eats, treats and holiday drinks, live music, and games and other ways to get you in the holiday spirit!

WHERE TO CHRISTMAS IN DFW WITH TEENS // Classic Ch WHERE TO CHRISTMAS IN DFW WITH TEENS // Classic Christmas

🌲 Coca Cola Classic Christmas - Choctaw Stadium in Arlington
🗓️ Now through Dec. 29

Growing up @cocacola made the holidays magic, so when Coca Cola Classic rolled down the road, we had to go peek! Partnering with @enchantchristmas, the experience is part lights, part photo opps and for my kids mostly FOOD and overall a lot of fun - all washed down with (of course, a Coca Cola!)

What was also great was a little walk through memory lane with Coke Christmas moments throughout the years - cue the polar bears and 18 wheeler!

Experience:
🎅Market Square (definitely hit up the t-shirts - reading each one is half the fun)
🎅 Snow Tubing (always our favorite)Ice Skating (truth: we don’t skate, but it’s perfect people watching)
🎅 Interactive Light up Dance Floor
🎅 @cinemark Theatre with holiday movies
🎅 Coca-Cola Lounge - 21+ Cocktail experience (looked great to go with the girls)
🎅 Santa Landing

And of course, the Eatery! Eyes (and mouths) got big here with featured food from State Fair of Tex winners like The Drowning Tacos (SO GOOD we then ordered the Birria Tacos, too all cooked onsite and with all the sauce!)

It’s the real thing!

WHERE TO CHRISTMAS IN DFW WITH TEENS // Prairie Li WHERE TO CHRISTMAS IN DFW WITH TEENS // Prairie Lights

🎄 Prairie Lights, Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie
🗓️ Now through Dec. 31 (NYE) at 6 pm

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without @prairielights- with a packed car with blankets, Santa hats, hot cocoa and coffee, and blasting holiday music while we sing them even louder.

A stunning two-mile drive through light park complete with a midway stop - The Holiday Village with carnival rides, amazing bites (corndogs, funnel cakes and more, oh my!) And this year we were surprised with a new light tunnel, reimagined walk-through forest and new displays, great photo opps, gifts, visit with Santa, a lighted strollable forest.  It’s perfectly timed for food, fun and a little time on foot!

PRO TIP: Go early, get tickets in advance and spring for the fast pass on the weekends and prime holiday times. And enjoy it and don’t try to rush it - enjoy it! That includes entry and the experience (so bathroom before you go, but thankfully there’s one at The Holiday Village and you get the corn dog.)

Named after Bangkok’s legendary road of entertainment of all kinds (Sukhumvit Soi 11), it seems fitting this newly imagined destination would find its home in Arlington’s Entertainment District. Anchoring the NEW @loewsarlington, @soycowboytx (also from @bbbutchers / @berghospitality) recently swung open the curtain this summer with an opening that made heads turn at every corner of this 12,000 sq. ft. of sexy space - with 3 unique bars, patio, viewable kitchen and dining room.

To call it a “Pan Asian restaurant” doesn’t do it justice with its rich menu of fresh sushi, dim sum, caviar, truffle, lobster, waygu (all things you don’t find in the home of the margarita machine and ballpark nachos.) And if you’re looking for entertainment, just take a peek into the expansive kitchen and watch your rolls or omakase be made. The cocktail menu is just as extravagant with everything from mezcal to Japanese whisky, you’re eyes will be just as happy as your lips upon your first sip.

While we experienced live music, fashion show and more as part of the opening, the cool smoke installation and the people-watching is definitely just part of the menu at Soy Cowboy you’ll have to explore.

Food Nerd Note: SoyCowboy is on the upcoming @dfwrestaurantweek menu for just $39, so it’s a steal to take your own trip on a budget. (Make your reservation.)
